As soon as I had my new phone in hand and activated, I called Lila to see how things were going with the insurance claim. A small part of me dreaded what the answer would be, because there was no way I could ever afford to replace what had been destroyed. The line rang several times before going to voice mail and Lila's cheery, pre-recorded message began.
"You've reached Lila Bell! I obviously can't answer the phone so go ahead a leave me a message! Have a great day!"
"Damn it Lila!" I hissed under my breath, hanging up before quickly typing out a text to her, telling her to call me a.s.a.p.
Dominic was standing at the entrance of the store, leaning against the door way, arms crossed. It was an under exaggeration to say that he was attracting attention. Women were practically dragging their jaws on the floor as they passed him, their eyes nearly popping out of their heads. He paid no attention to any of them, his eyes firmly on me. A part of me felt powerful because of that. Chubby, big girl Acacia with a smoking hot hunk by her side. Eat your hearts out bitches. My lips curved into a smirk at that thought, and Dominic arched a brow questioningly at me.
"She's not answering. If she doesn't call back in an hour, I'll try again." I explained, tucking my new phone away.
He nodded, pushing off of the wall and gesturing for me to exit the store ahead of him. Rolling my eyes at him, I walked past him. I was getting real tired of being told what to do. I had always had a problem with authority though, ever since I had first been abandoned into the foster care system. I always had told myself that those foster parents weren't my real parents so I didn't have to listen to them. Because of that, I had been moved from home to home constantly.
"I need a fucking cupcake."

The smell of baking vanilla cupcakes filled my apartment and relaxed me just a tiny bit. This was the second batch I had had to make because Tall, Dark and Scary had devoured the first before I could so much as snatch one for myself. In fact, he was sitting in one of the two chairs of my dinette set, licking the last remnants of lemon butter-cream frosting from his fingers. How the hell he could eat like that, yet stay that toned was beyond me.
I tried calling Lila again to no avail. Leaving a voice mail this time, I wondered why the hell she wasn't picking up. My best guess what that she was out with one of her boyfriends, but even then, she usually answered my calls and texts.
"Still no answer." I set the phone on the counter.
"Perhaps she doesn't want to talk you."
"You're an asshole." I stated, picking my mug of steaming chai tea and sipping it.
His black eyes narrowed at me before he turned and looked out kitchen window. "Asshole." I muttered, turning to take the cupcakes out of the oven just as the timer started going off.
Suddenly, I was against the wall, my hands pinned above me and the pan of cupcakes upside down on the floor. I stared wide eyed at Dominic, his eyes purely black, not a single spot of white in them. He dipped his head down to my throat and inhaled a deep breath. A shiver went down my spine and I heard a soft moan involuntarily slip out. He transferred both of my wrists to his left hand and grabbed a fistful of my hair with his right. I should have struggled, but I didn't.
"I am not a boy nor am I an asshole. If you do not watch your mouth, I'll have to punish you." He growled into my ear, pressing his body against mine and pinning me against the wall even more. I felt the growing heat of his body through the material of my clothes and wondered whether that was natural.
