I do not own Vampire Diaries
[In the ambulance]
Anastasia assisted the paramedics in assessing Vicki's vital signs before she took a seat beside Matt, the young man she had taught in various subjects like Math and Italian.
"Hey Matt, it's going to be okay. I've examined her, and she's going to be fine. She'll need a few stitches on her neck, and with some rest and care, she'll be back to normal in a few days," Anastasia reassured him with a confident smile.
"Thank you, Anastasia," Matt replied gratefully, his worry for his sister beginning to ease as he listened to her calming words.
"Please, we're not in school. Just call me Anastasia," she insisted, returning his smile warmly. Matt was a kind and polite young man, and she appreciated his respectful demeanor.
"Right, Anastasia," Matt nodded, and they both turned their attention back to monitoring Vicki's condition. Trying to divert his thoughts from the situation, Matt asked, "So, how did you become a doctor? I thought you were a teaching assistant."
"Well, I work part-time as a doctor and part-time as a teaching assistant," Anastasia explained as she continued to monitor the various displays showing Vicki's vitals.
Changing the subject, Matt inquired about her child, hoping to shift his focus away from his sister's injuries. "How's your kid?"
Anastasia smiled at the question. "She's doing well, thank you."
"Who's the father?" Matt asked curiously, noticing Anastasia's reaction and sensing that something might be amiss. When she seemed to tense up at his question, his concern grew. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing. Let's just say that the father's not in the picture," Anastasia responded tersely as the ambulance came to a halt. They had arrived at the hospital, and as the doors swung open, they all exited, with Vicki on the stretcher. Matt briefly glanced at Anastasia with concern before following the medical team into the hospital. Anastasia, meanwhile, accompanied a nurse to prepare and don the necessary attire before entering the surgical area. Her expertise granted her access, and she was grateful for the opportunity to utilize her medical skills to assist.
Sometime later, Anastasia emerged from the room, having shed the attire she had worn. She found Matt waiting in the hallway and he stood up as she approached.
"Is she okay?" Matt inquired anxiously.
"She's doing well. I assured you she would be. At this point, she just needs some rest. She's currently resting, but as her family, you can go see her," Anastasia informed him with a reassuring smile. She gently squeezed his shoulder before making her way out of the hospital.
[At Salvatore Boarding House]
"What's going on?" Zach asked, perplexed by his uncle's urgent demeanor as he entered the house.
"Someone else was attacked tonight, Zach, and it wasn't me," Stefan replied, a serious expression on his face as he made his way upstairs to his bedroom. Just as he entered the room, a crow flew in through the window, and Stefan knew exactly who it was even before he turned around to face his brother. "Damon."
Damon smirked, looking at Stefan's grave expression. "Hello, brother."
"Crow's a bit much, don't you think?" Stefan quipped, trying to maintain some semblance of normalcy as he moved around his room, attempting to control his frustration.
"Wait till you see what I can do with the fog," Damon replied, recalling how he had amused himself by scaring someone in the cemetery.
"When'd you get here?" Stefan inquired, his curiosity piqued as he tried to figure out why Damon had returned to Mystic Falls. He knew his brother never did anything without a reason.
