Family headcanons

I don't intentionally create headcanons.

They just happen.

When I wrote the first version of 'Welcome back, chief', Earrings and Burt had nothing to do with each other. I literally just picked a random toppat to be part of his group. Carol didn't have any relation to him either. I don't think she had anything to do with Terrence at that point.

I don't even remember when all of that happened.

But here are some more that just popped up. Mostly due to 'Traitor on board' progressing and more characters showing up.

Matilda Ivy and Thomas Chestershire

'Silence. Then Sheriff tried to start again "I don't ta- Agh!" Matilda had punched him into the stomach so hard, he just fell down and curled up on the floor, gasping for air. Carol took a few steps backwards while Thomas hurried over to them. "Miss Ivy! We don't need any more injuries"

The woman looked to the side "... Yes, Sir. I'm sorry. A bit"

Thomas sighed "Good... Now would someone please-"'

Again, at the moment I was writing this these characters had nothing to do with each other, other than both being toppats.

I had the vague idea of Earrings, Matilda and Katie being a group of friends you didn't want to mess with, but Thomas had nothing to do with her. But as I was thinking more about them, namely when writing 'What happened to the rest?' that passage just popped into my head again and it sounded... weird.

Thomas was scolding her, being the most authoritarian and respected person in the room at the time, but somehow I had to think about how an older brother would scold his rowdy little sister for making trouble again.

I made Matilda the same age Henry (A) and the Witch are (born 1993), one year older than the 'main' cast.

I never imagined Thomas to be very old. I've seen some instances in which he is much older, old enough to be a parent with a child who's also already an adult, but I'd say for my AU he's in his early to mid-thirties.

I think that's a nice place for him to be, age-wise. I'd imagine him to become an elite later, higher in command, like Carol, Macbeth and Ahnoldt are.

It would also put enough years between him and Matilda for his parents to put him in charge while they went out and stuff like that.

'Thomas' and 'Matilda' are both English names and would both fit with 'Chestershire' as a last name. And Matilda changing her name isn't exactly something uncommon for toppats to do.

So yeah, that's what my brain came up with regarding those two.

Reginald Copperbottom

This is more a little side note... after thinking about why Right, Terrence and Carol left their families behind I couldn't really come up with a reason why Reginald was cast out by his parents.

I kind of made him the smartest out of the four of them and I didn't really want more homophobic parents in this AU, no matter how common it might have been around that time.

So I decided he wasn't cast out.

He left out of solidarity with his boyfriend and his best friend and to spite Carol.

And his mother never learned the truth.

She believed he went to school somewhere else with them, got a job, ended up in a high position within a company. It sounds like a ridiculously massive lie. And I can't help but imagine Reginald asking older toppats for help to keep it up. Randy would've helped him out. Another thing that could've happened is Reginald asking Fredrick for help, after he inherited his factory.

It sounds nice and sad at the same time.

So this is probably the only time this will ever be mentioned.

The Henrys

... No, I'm actually not explaining why Henry (A) despises Henry (I).

But I have two incorrect quotes here and maybe it'll be explained in 'ToB' or maybe a more lighthearted askblog set in the Toppat recruits ending... Idk.

---

Burt: Hey, Henry. Henry is here and wants to talk to you.

Henry: Tell him, I don't want to talk to him.

Burt: ... You could just turn around and say it to his face.

Henry: I do not want to talk to him. Tell him that.

Burt: ...

Burt: I'm not going to play telephone with you, when you're literally standing three feet away from each other.

---

Henry: I CAN'T DO IT!
Earrings, laughing: I CAN'T EITHER!
Henry: I CANT FUCKING DO IT ANYMORE
Sven: WELL I'LL TELL YOU WHAT, YOU CAN EITHER GIVE UP NOW, OR YOU CAN FIGURE IT OUT. BECAUSE WE CERTAINLY CAN'T DO IT WITHOUT YOU, AND WE KNOW YOU CAN'T DO IT WITHOUT US.
Henry:
Henry: I appreciate it,
Henry: BUT LOOK WHAT WE'RE DEALING WITH-
Burt: Henry-
Henry: YOU GOTTA DRAW THE LINE SOMEWHERE!
Hattie: Henry we gotta-
Henry: YOU GOTTA DRAW A FUCKING LINE IN THE SAND. YOU GOTTA MAKE A STATEMENT.
Henry: YOU GOTTA LOOK INSIDE YOURSELF AND SAY 'What am I willing to put up with today?'
Henry, motioning to Henry: NOT FUCKING THIS
