I'll Protect you

It was a peaceful night in camp oasis. Ashara and Kaiba were silently enjoying their night. Kaiba was asleep on Ashara's chest. The only noise to fill the air was the sound of the desert breeze and Kaiba's light snoring. Everything was calm.

Ashara cherished these moments. He enjoyed the simpler, quieter things in life, so being able to enjoy a quiet moment like this with his loved one just felt right. They didn't need anyone, or anything, else. All they needed was each other and-

Ashara was brought out of his thoughts by the feeling of movement on his chest and Kaiba's whimpering. He could feel tears start to soak through his shirt.He quickly sat himself and Kaiba up, with Kaiba curling into a ball in his lap. It was when he started mumbling to himself that Ashara started to understand what was going on.

"No...Stop.. Let go, please."

Ashara felt his heart shatter at the sound of Kaiba crying. He'd known Kaiba has had a nightmare of the incident before but he had hoped it was a one time thing. He didn't know it would happen again.

When it had first happened he hated himself. He hated the fact that he wasn't there to protect Kaiba from Mors. Kaiba was the first person he truly cared about and yet he wasn't there for him. That day he vowed to kill Mors and anyone who dared tried to hurt him. He wasn't there then, but he could be here now.

Ashara gently shook Kaiba in an attempt to wake the sleeping prince. Kaiba's eyes quickly shot open. Fear and panic danced in his eyes as he searched for a threat that wasn't there. Ashara in a moment of quick thinking grabbed Kaiba and pulled him to his chest trying to calm the prince. "Shhh, it'll be ok. I won't let him hurt you," Ashara hesitated holding Kaiba closer.

"Not Again."

Kaiba, hearing this, shoved his face into Ashara's chest. The tears fell a little harder as he gripped Ashara's shirt.

It felt nice to hear someone say that.
