Chapter 2

Entering her home, Leigh noticed the note on the kitchen counter. Quickly reading the note, she sighed. The landlord was on them about something again. But this time Leigh didn't understand. What the hell does he mean "Get rid of the dog!"? We don't have a dog.

Leaving the note on the counter, Leigh went back to her room to begin working on her homework.

About an hour later, Amanda stood in her doorway. One look at her with her bouncy blonde hair and big blue eyes and Leigh knew she was thinking the same things as she had earlier.

"What is he talking about? We don't have a dog."

"I know."

Amanda thought for a moment. "He might be that stray I've seen around."

"Stray?"

"Yeah, there is this stray dog I see sometimes. It's really a beautiful animal. I've feed it a few times."

"There's the problem. Stop doing that and we won't have to worry about losing our apartment."

Amanda nodded. "K. Well, I'll leave you to finish your work." She began to head and then came back to the doorway. "Are still going out tonight with me right?"

"Yeah. As soon as I finish reading this chapter."

Amanda left and Leigh went back to her homework.

XOXOX

Leigh looked around the club. Why the hell did I agree to come? She always does this. Leaving me all alone so she can go find some ass. I always have to deal with the drunks that won't take no for an answer. Leigh slipped her water. That's it I'm leaving. Leigh stood up and began to make her way towards the exit.

Walking through the masses of people, Leigh sighed. I should have just stayed at home and read. I don't know why I said yes this one time. Finally reaching the exit, she smiled. Now back to the apartment and to a nice warm bath. OH and a book.

Outside in the cool night air, she made her way towards home. The apartment wasn't too far way that she needed to drive a car. Rounding a corner, Leigh began to walk faster. What the hell is that sound? It sounds like an animal. About two blocks away from the apartment, she looked over shoulder. What the hell?!

Following her was something that looked like a mutate wolf. It snarled at her and glared at her with yellow eyes. Leigh began to run. She could hear the creature snarl and running.

I only need to make it inside. If I make it inside, I'll be ok. Thank goodness I decided to wear flats.

But about less than a block away from safety, she tripped. She turned and looked behind her. The snarling animal came closer. Leigh looked around her.Damn, no one is around. The thing was now barely a foot away. Suddenly a howl filled the street. Leigh watched as man appeared out of nowhere and attacked the thing.

The creature whimpered and then fled. The man turned to face her. The first thing Leigh noticed about him was his eyes. They were blue like sapphires. Then she noticed his shoulder length shaggy black hair. Slowly Leigh got to her feet.

"Thanks."

He grabbed hold of her wrist and helped her to become steady. "Your welcome."

As he released her wrist, Leigh looked up at him. "What was that?"

"That was a demonic werewolf."

Leigh put her hands on her hips. "A werewolf? Yeah, right."

The man nodded. "A werewolf."

Sighing Leigh lowered her arms. "Where are my manners?" She extended her hand. "I'm Leigh Howell."

He took hold of her hand. "Blake Adolphus."

"Can I offer you a cup of coffee or something?"

Blake looked at her. "Coffee would be wonderful."

"K. I know a local place that is way better than Starbucks."

XOXOX

Blake sat across from Leigh sipping the black cup of coffee in front of him. She's more beautiful than I thought. And my vision is wonderful. He glanced at Leigh as she stirred her iced decaf coffee.

"Do you have any questions?"

"I have a ton."

"Ask and we shall see where they take us?"

Leigh looked at him and sighed. "Why did that thing start chasing me?"

Blake smiled slowly. "Because you are the mate to werewolf."

"Oh, really."

"Yes. But you don't have to believe me."

"Good. Cause I don't."

"Too bad your uncle isn't here to help explain this."

Leigh's eyes grew. "What about my uncle?"

"It wasn't a rabid dog like they said in the papers was it?"

He watched as Leigh looked at him. I wonder what she is thinking.

"You knew my uncle?"

"Yes. I'm sorry I brought it up. Now you are still in danger."

"I'm in danger from something that I don't believe is real."

Why is she being so difficult? Doesn't she remember that night? The night I had to protect her. I couldn't save him. He was already too gone.

He glanced down at the table, but noticed that Leigh was gathering her things.

"What's wrong?"

"Sorry, I have to get home. I have classes tomorrow."

"May I see you again?"

Leigh looked at him. I know you know me. Just say it.

"Sure." She grabbed a napkin and took a pen out of her small purse. Quickly she wrote down her number. "Call me."

After putting the pen back in her purse, she left. Blake finished his coffee and soon followed.

What good is waiting for her if one of them gets her first?
