"I'm home!" I heard someone yell. Savannah and I were hanging out in the living room. I was reading up on some spells while Savannah was making a groceries list. "We're in here" I said out loud. I heard hurried footsteps coming closer. I looked up and saw Maya standing at the door. I looked her over and noticed she looked kind of nervous. "Yo, what's up?" I asked worriedly. Savannah stopped writing and looked up at Maya. She put down her pen and leaned back into the chair she was sitting on. I could see Maya chewing the inside of her cheek. She usually did this when she knew she had done something wrong or if she was nervous. "So-" she started fiddling with her fingers "I might have done something". It was dead silent. "Carry on" Savannah said. "It's really not that bad..." she said quietly. "Oh, for the Goddess' sake spit it out Maya" I exclaimed. "Okay okay... well you know there is the park where all the humans hang out-" she started to explain herself with her whole body "I kind of went there just to do some research on some new plants I've seen there. Well, I saw this group of young people – they looked like high school students – and I kind of followed them. They did not see me! So, don't worry about that...". Savannah and I looked at each other for a second. "What happened when you followed them?" Savannah asked, now looking at Maya again. "Well, I followed them all the way to a big building. I think it was their school. I might have gone inside the building and taken a good look around. A human then came over to me and started talking to me as if I were one of the students. I then told her I was not, and she asked me if I was a transfer student like a new student" Maya stopped for a second. "Maya, you told her you were not a new student there, right?" Savannah asked as she slowly rose from the chair. Maya avoided eye contact with her. "Well I was going to but she was just so excited and I got nervous so I accidentally blurted out that I was a new transfer student" Maya exclaimed as she stretched out her hand "She even gave me papers and a schedule". Maya was holding a letter and a printed-out schedule in her hand.

It was completely silent again or at least before I started laughing uncontrollably "HAHAHAHA". Maya made an angry face at me. "Stoooop! I was so nervous I didn't know what to do or say!" Maya was now pouting. Savannah facepalmed herself. "Honestly, that is the most exciting thing I've heard in a while" I said while trying to stop myself from laughing. "Well do you want me to pack you a little lunch box for your big day tomorrow" and that is when I started laughing again. "No way, you're not going to school" Savannah said dead serious. I stopped laughing immediately. "We can't risk going to school or being around all those humans. Do you guys not remember what happened the last time we were associated with them?" Savannah asked in a serious tone. Maya looked down while I rolled my eyes. "Listen, I know we've been very isolated out here-" I interrupted Savannah before she could finish her sentence. "ISOLATED?! We have not had ANY kind of interaction with the outside world for over hundreds of years. I think I'm going insane from only being in this house" I said while looking directly at Savannah. "I know why we had to isolate ourselves but at this point, I think death would be better than being isolated here" I was dead serious. I HATED being trapped in this ginormous mansion. There was legit nothing to do. "I mean think about it. We could all go to school and start living a more normal life" I pleaded. I could tell how hard Savannah was thinking about it. "ARGH!" she exclaimed "So you guys would legitimately rather spend the next years doing homework and going to school in a normal humane school?" she looked at us. Maya and I both nodded. Savannah ran her hand through her hair out of frustration. "Okay FINE, but on TWO conditions" Savannah said firmly "First, no one is EVER allowed inside this mansion, understood?". Maya and I looked at each other and then back at Savannah. We both nodded enthusiastically. "Second-" Savannah continued "No magic is EVER allowed to be used at school, near the school or just near any humans in general". Maya and I nodded again. Savannah sighed. "I guess we will be transferring to a new school tomorrow then". Maya and I both jumped around the living room really excited for what was about to come.

Preparations

Later that night we had all gathered in the basement of the mansion. "Alright, let's get this spell over with" Savannah said as she started gathering ingredients for the spell that we were about to perform. "I'll go get some herbs from the garden" Maya said as she headed upstairs to go to the garden. I quietly went over to my spellbook to find the spell that we were about to perform. "What page did you say the spell was on?" I asked Savannah as I was flipping the pages of the book. "I believe it was page 553" Savannah said as she was checking some glass bottles with white powder in them. "Thank you" I said as I started flipping the book's pages again. I found page 553 and thankfully it was the right page. I started reading up on the spell. "Hey, can you check if I've gathered all the right ingredients" Savannah asked as she went over to me, placing all the ingredients on the table in front of me. "Yeah, sure" I replied as I looked at all the ingredients. "Soil... rosemary...seawater..." I kept checking off all the ingredients. "All of the ingredients should be there, except for the yarrow" I said as I looked at Savannah. "Perfect" she said as she began making a circle with the white powder from earlier "Maya should be getting that right now". As if on cue Maya came dashing down the stairs "I got the yarrow". Savannah and I began preparing the spell. Maya was looking at the papers that she had been given by one of the teachers. She looked so happy and excited. It had been a while since I had seen her with a genuine smile on her face. I was happy just looking at her. "I'm glad she is happy about the whole school situation" I said as I looked over at Savannah. "Me too. I just hope we are not making a mistake," she said as she looked over at Maya. I walked over to Savannah and put a hand on her shoulder "Hey, I promise it's going to be fine". Savannah looked at me with a small smile on her face. She put her hand on my hand and said, "Thank you". I nodded with a smile on my face. "Alright" Savannah said as she got in position to cast the spell "Let us start".

The three of us were standing around the diagram we had created. "I'll start out and you guys follow my lead, okay?" I said as I looked at both of them. They both nodded and closed their eyes. I took in a deep breath before I started praying. "Goddess above, queen of the night, here our plea upon this night-" I knelt down, picked up some of the white powder and sprinkled it out in the middle of the diagram "Please hear our prayers for tonight". There was a hole in the roof in the middle of the room where the moon's light could come through. As soon as I had spoken the last words of our prayer a bright light from the moon shone down right on top of the white powder. The white powder immediately began glowing. "Now" I said. Savannah and Maya immediately began chanting. "To harm above them all, may they never smell the odour-" I joined them in their chanting "The scent has been taken away, let the prey lay hidden in some way". As we all chanted in unison the room began glowing even more "The smell the nose will never see, so mote it will be". As we finished the 'hidden scent' spell the glow in the room started dimming down. We all opened our eyes slowly. "Is it done?" Maya asked as Savannah slowly made her way over to the white powder in the middle of the diagram. "Yes" she said as she held some of the white glowing powder in her hand. "Now all we have to do is rub this all over our bodies then no creature can smell the scent of our kind" she said as she began rubbing the powder all over herself. Maya and I followed suit and began rubbing our own bodies with the powder.

After we were all done Maya spoke up "Can we do the more fun parts now?". "What fun parts" I asked, sounding completely dumbfounded by her question. "Duuuh what we are going to wear tomorrow dummy" Maya said all giddily. "You're really excited about this huh?" Savannah asked, looking at her with a sly smile. "OF COURSE! I cannot wait to see how society has changed after so many years" Maya said with sparkles in her eyes. "Now now, we don't have much time before we have to go to school"Maya grabbed my wrist and Savannah's upper arm "Let us go find some outfits!". Maya then dragged us up the stairs to find the 'perfect' outfits for the perfect first day of school.
