"Do I have to go to bed now?"

"Yep, you have to go to school tomorrow. We don't need you to be tired and falling asleep all day. I have enough to worry about with your Dad's job." You mumbled the last part to yourself.

"Do you know when he's coming home tonight?" Your son asked, an expectant look on his face.

"Not yet. He'll be okay though, and you can give him a big hug and tell him all about you're week tomorrow when you wake up, okay?" You assured him.

"Okay...."

"Goodnight now. Love you." You kissed him on the forehead, pulling the blanket over his shoulders as he layed down on his side.

"Goodnight..." You heard him whisper out as you closed his door.

You gave a breathy sigh, once the door was closed, checking the time on your phone.

9:30 pm

You frowned.

You hated his job, making him work late, even working in other countries. Sometimes he'd be gone for days, weeks, maybe even a month or two. But, you understood. You understood why he chose to stay in that line of work; it did bring in plenty of money for you and John to live comfortably. At least you no longer had to worry about not being able to pay for necessities.
You decided you would go to sleep for now, and wait for him to come home.

'Whenever that would be.'

You made sure the front and back doors were locked, leaving the entryway light on and went to your room to lay down and let yourself drift off to sleep. Raiden had only been gone for a total of three days, which was a shorter amount than many other times that he'd been gone.

'Even still....'

It felt cold...

The room...

The bed...

Everytime.

You layed still, holding back tears as you laid on your husband's side of the bed. It still had his scent on it. Only faintly though. After a few minutes of taking in the sadness and yearning for him, sleep took you away to a nice and dreamy place. A place where you wished he could live without all his worries and issues.

At the same time, Raiden was still on his way back. With a few more hours of driving before he could rest. Even with his cyborg body, he could get tired too. Not just his body, but his mind as well. And this time he was physically exhausted and mentally exhausted. He was sure that both you and John were sleeping peacefully by now.

This last job was particularly disgusting. He had to expose a popular organization in Canada for dabbling in human trafficking. Most of the time he had to watch and take pictures for physical evidence, it wasn't until day 3 that he couldn't watch anymore and got physical. He had enough evidence as it was.

A few hours after you had fallen asleep, he arrived home. Everything was calm and quiet in the neighborhood. Even now as Raiden parked the car and unlocked the house.

By this point Raiden just wanted to shut his eyes and pass out, he was too tired to even join you in bed. He knew you'd be upset, but he also didn't want to disturb you. He decided he would just sleep on the couch for now. He plopped himself down on a comfy cushion, slipping his shoes off and setting them aside. He undid his tie as well and swiftly took off his blazer, setting both articles off to hang on the side of the couch.
Raiden layed down on his back, letting himself pass out with only the dim entryway light trying to disturb him.

An hour later, you woke up. Tired and groggy. You could feel your throat was dry. You sat up in the bed, looking over at the alarm clock on your night stand.

1:02 am

'He should be home by now...'

Without much thought you got out of bed, leaving the covers in a mess, and going downstairs. The entry way light was still on, reflecting off your sleeping husband's silvery hair. As you walked closer, you could see that he had discarded some of his clothes and shoes by now.

You took a seat on the couch with him, gently laying his head in your lap. His eyes opened, squinting as he looked up at you. You could practically see the exhaustion in his eyes.
You started to brush your fingers through his hair. He gave a soft sigh at your touch, closing his soft blue eyes once again.

"You know, it would be better if you slept in the bed instead." You broke the silence, softly letting your voice carry itself to his ears.

"I didn't want to disturb you." He mumbled out, leaning into your touch.

"You wouldn't have...." You gave a tug on his hair. Watching as he winced, knowing now that wasn't the right thing to say.

The two of you sat in silence once again, you still petting his hair and him drifting off to sleep again.

"Come on, let's get you to bed." You pushed him to make him sit up. He gave a small huff but complied with your demands. He stood up and started walking to your shared room. You picked his shoes, putting them away and brought his discarded clothes with you to throw in the laundry basket.

You made it to the room, turning on the nightstand light and seeing that he had made a half assed attempt of undressing and threw himself on the bed, with the covers thrown over on your side. Just how you had left it.

Instead of further disturbing him, you decided to take his unbuttoned white shirt off of him and slide his pants down, leaving him in a pair of underwear.

You then pulled the covers over him, and walked over to your side of the bed. You turned off the light, and made yourself comfortable beside him.

'This is nice...'

Just as you were about to doze off, you felt an arm rest over your waist, followed by another head resting on your pillow. You leaned into his touch, as you heard his soft breaths

"I love you....."
