I sighed, as I pulled into the driveway. Some asshole customer at work kept catcalling me and slapping me on the ass, no matter how many times I asked him to stop.

Eventually, my manager kicked him out which made his wife start going off because I messed up their "romantic evening". I just wanted to see Jenny and sleep.

When I got out of my car I realized that my parent's car wasn't in the driveway. Usually, they would tell me if they weren't going to be home, but they must have forgotten. It was fine, I'd just ask them where they went when they came home.

I walked into the house, putting my keys on a shelf by the door. The house was quiet, it almost felt too quiet. If my parents weren't here then that meant that I was here alone. Johnny said he was going to take Jenny to see the gang so he wasn't here either.

"Amelia..." I jumped, turning to the kitchen, seeing my Dad with a bottle of whiskey sitting on the table.

All of my life, I've only known my father to drink on holidays or on sad occasions. It obviously wasn't a holiday or else we'd be barbecuing and the house wouldn't be quiet.

"Dad, what's wrong?" I asked quickly, thinking something may have happened to Jenny or maybe even Johnny.

"Amelia, sweetheart, sit down." I walked over to the kitchen table and sat down in front of him. The smell of coffee from my workplace and his whiskey clashed almost immediately, it was a terrible smell but I was more focused on what was going on with my Dad. "Your Mom was in a crash." He said, his voice wobbling.

There was something else about my Dad that was a key detail in this situation. I'd never seen or heard him cry before. Not even when my grandpa, his Dad, died when I was ten. He didn't cry. Not at the funeral, or at home. So, the fact that his eyes were tearing up meant something.

"Oh my god, is she okay?!" I asked quickly. My Dad looked up at me, with so much sadness in his eyes that I almost wished I hadn't asked him that.

"She didn't make it, Amelia."

"Hey, Johnny, someone's on the phone for you. They said it's important." I sighed, handing Jenny to Dally who was practically begging me to let him hold her.

"Hello?"

"Johnny, this is Randy. I know I'm the last person you want to hear from but Emily, Amelia's Mom, was in a crash and she didn't survive." I felt my heart drop.

Amelia's Mom was probably my favorite one of her parents. She was sweet, her cooking was amazing, and she was funny. I could see where Amelia got all of her good qualities from.

"Shit," I whispered beneath my breath, hoping none of the gang heard me. I didn't want them to think anything bad was happening that would cause them to worry.

"Amelia's a wreck, she's locked herself in her room and she won't let me or her dad inside. You're our best bet." My eyebrows furrowed with confusion.

"Your best bet? She just lost her Mom, she's not gonna want to talk to you." I raised my voice, catching the attention of the gang.

Was this asshole an idiot too? The only reason she spoke to me or Ponyboy when Bob died was that we had to, to survive. Now, she just wanted to be left alone, and this idiot wasn't leaving her be.

"Johnny, you don't understand, we keep trying to get her to open the door but she's not even responding to us," Randy said quickly, as I heard glasses clinking in the background.
