And because God is holy, we should strive to be too (Leviticus 11:44). Now, this isn't to say that we will not ever sin because no, we will always sin subconsciously (1 John 1:8). Let me just explain further.. You see sin isn't holy and it doesn't mix with Jesus because He's a pure God. So since we were tainted with so much sin, God wasn't gonna be able to have a relationship with us (His creations) whom He loved so much because He's holy.. and well, we were not. But that's why Jesus took our punishment for those same sins on the cross for us; just so we can be close to Him and have a relationship with Him. And when Jesus died for our own impurity, all He really requested was for our love back in return which meant following His commandments (John 14:15) & giving Him our heart (Deuteronomy 4:9). And that's what really matters in this point I'm making; your heart. He even went as far out of love to give us the gift of His Holy Spirit (John 14:26).
Your heart is to refer to your emotions and desires because it's what those things stem from. And the heart is also deceitful (Jeremiah 17:9) but that's because of our flesh. Our flesh based desires aren't of God.. for it desires things of sin that the world encourages (1 John 2:16). So when our flesh craves something, those feelings produce through our heart.. and that's why Jesus wants our heart so He can work on it & fill it with the things our soul needs (things that ARE of Him), so that He'll be our desire instead. So for example, my flesh may crave to smoke weed because it claims to give me a sense of "peace," but my soul craves to look into God as my everlasting peace and get into His word & rely on Him when I have these urges. I chose to instill the spiritual desires I have for God to be placed on my heart to diminish the fleshy ones in my heart (Galatians 5:16). So I say this to say.. avoid falling into sins continuously consciously and purposely, because God is holy & He dwells in us (1 Corinthians 3:16)— but sin isn't holy, therefore it shouldn't dwell in us. Dwell is also a way to say 'live in.' Living in sin is different than us being inevitable of sinning.
We'll always fall short of God's grace so it's inevitable for us to be without sin even after saved (Romans 6:23), because to be sinless means to be perfect; and nobody but Jesus is. Besides, that's the whole reason why Jesus died and continuously gives out His grace to forgive us each and every time we do fall short (2 Chronicles 30:9, Ephesians 1:7). But living in sin is to know something is wrong, but continuously choose to commit it. Living in sin is loving sin. Living in sin reflects on your life style.. where you're purposely giving in to what your flesh desires daily.
But when the Holy Spirit dwells in us; God dwells in us, we live a life hating sin. We live a life running from sin, but choosing to run to God, even if our imperfections cause us to fall short. We get back up and continue to try and deny our fleshy desires.
Deliberately sinning would also hurt Jesus because you know the truth but just chose the deceit of sin over the that (Hebrews 10:26, John 8:32). But when you fight those flesh based desires of your heart and replace the desires of your soul to be place into your heart instead.. that's what God analyzes.
Anyways, I know it's hard and it won't go unsaid; so don't expect to not fall short, (remember struggling with sin isn't living in sin) but do your best in denying your flesh & trying to be holy as God is. It's a process and it's a journey and y'all got this. Don't be discouraged; hang on to God! He sees you trying! Count your efforts just as much as you count your falls (Proverbs 24:16). We won't ever be flawless like God is and ever reach to his level of holiness (1 Samuel 2:2). but that's why God watches our heart, because we try anyways out of love for him. (Hebrews 6:10 | even though this verse speaks on the work towards guiding those to Christ and ministering out of love, I believe it can be applied to yourself as well. if God sees your work regarding spreading the gospel, He sees your work in following it as well.)
Let's all do our best to live holy lives ᰔ⊹
