''Good morning, Jackson-ssi.''
.
.
.
I honestly didn't expect that this unfamiliar boy would know my name. He bore his eyes into mine like he exactly knew what he was here for, and that he was determined to do just that. I tried to recall any memories of this teenager to predict what he wanted from me.
I slowly chewed the remaining pieces of fruit that were in my mouth, not too hastily so I could take in the boy's features.
Nope, no encounters with this chit.
"Can I help you?"
The last word came out like I just squeezed it out of my throat, so I grabbed a glass of water to make the dessert in my mouth less dry.
The boy started fiddling with his fingers, letting out a small cough as though he was going to make an announcement or give a well-prepared speech.
"I would like to say this all as sweetly as possible, but I don't know how, so I am just going to cut the chase. Y/N left."
My chair screeched as it moved backward while I stood up. I grabbed him by the collar of his jacket and moved him towards me. The boy staggered in my hold, but I couldn't care less.
"What do you know about Y/N? How do you know her?!"
I had many questions, but I couldn't ask too much at once.
"You shouldn't make a scene, Jackson-ssi. We're in a public space and we don't want to get kicked out," the boy choked out, while he tried to remain smug with his answer. Getting kicked out is the least of my concerns at the moment.
"You are in no position to give me commands, kid."
He probably isn't that much younger than me, but at this moment, intimidation is the key. I let him down, and the boy sagged down on his chair.
"Misoo, my name is Misoo, and I have a part-time job here, multiple functions. Y/N and I get along really well, but she left a few days ago, saying she was going to move to Japan. She said she had been offered a good-paying full-time job there as an educational psychologist. She said that she really couldn't miss out on this opportunity." He let out a breath once he finished the whole story without missing a beat.
"What in the world makes you think that I would believe that? She would've told me. She is my best friend, and she would never ever leave without telling me. I've known her for years, and I just know that she wouldn't leave without a warning."
My clenched fists were resting on my lap and I couldn't help but think whether I was just convincing myself, or actually trying to get my point across.
Misoo just sat in his chair, taking air in shakily because of the sudden block of oxygen. His silence made me feel itchy from the inside and I started to fight the anger which didn't want to submerge.
"I- I am telling nothing but the truth. I don't know a lot, because I haven't been in contact with Y/N since she left, but I told you everything I know. I am sure."
The boy coughed and softly touched his neck, to ease the pain. I stared down at him, not knowing whether to believe his words or not. I refrained from punching him.
I was so angry. Everything is a mess ever since she left, and I just needed to get all of this anger and frustration out of my body. It wasn't really anything personally against this Misoo, he just gave me another thing to stress about.
