When we get to my room is when Trevor speaks. "What do you think is wrong?"
I shrugged, "not sure. Not sure I care, either."
"Sure you do, hun," he sits with me on the bed.
"Nope. I don't."
He gives a sigh of defeat and lies on his back. "What do you want to do?"
I look to him, "you pick."
He looks around my room. Eyeing my makeup table, he says, "let me do your makeup."
I laughed, but he followed it up with a statement of sincerity. I raised my brows. "If you want to, but I don't have a lot of makeup."
He winks, "I'll see what I can do."
We go over and he slides over my computer chair. I sit on the bench, and he reaches next to me for the makeup. "Wouldn't it be easier if you sat here?"
He smiles, "maybe, but then I couldn't do this," he pecks my lips. As he pulls away a tube of mascara, "as I reach for this."
"Ah, smooth," I narrow my eyes, jokingly.
"I know, I am the master of smooth." He tries to pull it out. He wants to apply it with ou wiping off the extra. I grab his wrist to prevent him from doing so. "What's this?"
"You gotta wipe it off, first." I smile.
"Oh... No, hey, listen, I'm the boyfriend, you're not supposed to tell me how to use each of these."
I groan. "️Okay, I guess not."
"Also, don't look at yourself until I'm done."
"️Okay, you may begin,"
After only a bit of guess work on his part, he declared his "masterpiece is finished!"
"Can I look now?"
He nods. I eagerly turn to the mirror. My mouth opens in shock. I look back at him. "How'd you do this?"
"I have to my mom's makeup some times, plus my niece's love to get all dolled up and give a fashion show."
"You have nieces?" I smile at how sweet he was to help them.
"Yeah, two. My mom's brother's kids. But he passed a while back, too. I try to go and help Shelby. They're six and, well, Carm should be turning eight soon."
I take his hands in mine. "That's very considerate of you,"
He nods, "well, you look gorgeous."
I blush under the products. "Well, you made me look like this."
He kisses my cheek gently. "I didn't make the canvas, I just painted on it."

Two days later, on Friday, Coach had posted the team. Kaydra and Nikki waited for me to show up to look. I arrive with Trevor's hand in mine, and everyone's gazes permanently plastered to us. The hottest guy in school dating the new girl.
"The list!" Nikki squeals so loud I think I needed a hearing aid when Kaydra spoke.
"C'mon, we have to go see!" She grabs my free hand and pulls us in a chain to the locker rooms.
There was a piece of paper taped to the white brick. Kaydra took a deep breath, but Nikki, she ran up and practically hit the wall.
"Not me, not me, not me-- KAYDRA. Not me, not-- ME!"
I swallow, "what about me--?"
"Ruby, you're right under me!"
I look at the list just for confirmation. Sure enough I was there. Last name, but on the list.
"Congratulations, you guys!" Trevor smiles. I clap excitedly and wrap my arms around his neck.
"Oh my god, yes! This is going to be awesome!" Nikki waves her hands around.
"I know! And we have about three months until the games."
I grin. "I can't wait."
Nikki gives me a high five, making my palm sting, but in my state of euphoria, it didn't phase me. "Let's do this."
