"I'm okay..." I said after a few minutes.
He pulled away and I crossed my arms, slightly embarrassed.
"I'm sorry...."
He just looked at the ground. "It's fine," He looked back up at me. "Ruby, I had a wonderful time with you today," He took my hands in his, "You're an amazing person."
I smiled, "You're pretty amazing too,"
"No one can be as amazing as you."
"You can," I push him a little.
"Good night, Ruby." He smiles.
He starts down the stairs.
"Wait!"
"Yes?" He turned around, smiling.
I looked around. "Would you want to uhm...like, come inside?"
He smiled, "Ruby, I don't think you mom would like that."
I blushed, "You're right...that's why I was thinking you should come through my window..?"
He smirked, "Do you think I'm a bad boy like that?"
I smiled, "I was hoping you would be."
He winked, "Only for you,"
I walked in through the door. "Mom, I'm home!" I took of my jacket and hung it up.
"How was your date, hun?" Her volume matched mine, even though she was a handful of feet away.
"Perfect," I yelled to keep the trend going. "I'm going to bed," with that I retreat to my room. I closed the door and locked it. Without turning on the light, I cross over to my window and open it up.
"Ah, you're even more beautiful in the moonlight,"
I smiled. He entered my room. I couldn't stop my arms from going around his neck.
He chuckled, but hugged me back.
I yawned. "You're tired, huh?"
I pressed into his chest, "No, I'm completely awake at four thirty in the morning."
"Oh good," He kissed the top of my head, "I thought you were going to sleep on me." He tightened his arm around me.
"If I went to sleep, I would be on you,"
"How romantic," he states.
I agreed. He sat up, pushing me up with him.
"What's wrong-?"
He started taking off his jacket. He threw it down on the floor next to my bed. I turned on my lamp. I actually hesitated to turn back to see his arms. When I did, though, I couldn't see his forearms. I put my arm between his and his chest, and wrapped my arm around his. He looked down and over to me. Trevor took a deep breath.
"I've never shown anyone..."
I nodded, not knowing what to say.
"I feel like I can trust you."
"Of course you can." I look at him. He turns and looks over at me.
He looks down a little, "Can I kiss you?"
Before I could answer he leaned in and I didn't pull away.
"You're beautiful." He looks down at his arm. Then he turns it over, confirming my fear. Some were old and fading others were still red, a few even still scabbed over. I rest my head on his shoulder.
"So are your scars." I kiss the back of his hand.
"No... They're not..." he rested his head on mine.
He turns over his other arm too. That's when I broke. I started hysterically crying.
"Hey..." he tries to calm me down by hugging me. I grab fistfuls of his shirt and cry into his chest. I kept shaking my head.
"It's okay, Ruby..." he rocked me back and forth.
"I'm sorry." I say between sobs, "I-"
My mom knocks on my door. "Ruby, dear?" she tries opening the door, but it was still locked.
I stop crying instantly, terrified of Trevor being in the room with me. Trevor's grasp around me didn't lessen. Trevor and I didn't dare move.
"Ruby, open the door, honey," My mom shook the handle again. I stood, and Trevor let me go. He got up too, and stood against the wall behind the door. I unlock the door. My mom shoves it open instantly. "Why did you lock the door?!" she screams at me. I flinch from the light in the hall way. Her eyes dart to the ground. "Is that Trevor's jacket?"
I turn around. Dammit. "Yeah, he left it here, when we went to dinner."
She glared at me. "No. He was wearing it when you two left, and he was wearing it when he walked you to the porch."
Shit.
"Ruby, I'm not an idiot. He's in your closet, isn't he?"
"No-" before I could say anymore she pushes me out of the way and goes over to my closet. She throws open the door. Her shoulders sink a little.
"Hmm... he can stay since he's got a good hiding spot. We'll talk about this after school tomorrow. Let him come down for breakfast, don't keep hiding him." With that, she leaves, closing the door behind her.
I lightly slap Trevor's stomach, "You almost died."
He smiled, "You're worth dying for."
