"When were you gonna tell me about signing a contract with One Direction?" I demanded, quite miffed at her for not telling me on time. She sighed, "So you came to know."
"Yes, I did. And not from my mother but from someone else." I said. She frowned, "I'm sorry. I should have told you but I was worried about your reaction and I was right. You are reacting just like I thought you would. That's why I asked Casey to keep it secret."
I just remained silent and picked up her suitcase from the ground. I hurried off to her room and placed it on the bed. When I came back she was standing there, pretty upset. That's right. My mother had just come home from California and I was already showing her a hard time. I know I don't get daughter of the year award but I just couldn't take it. My mom and I have been very close ever since my loser of a dad left. We shared everything with each other. Whenever she got a new contract she used to contact me and tell it to me. No matter how busy she was, she used to find time just to inform me about the contract. And this time, she was not bothered at all. I sighed, running up to my room while calling out:
"I'm upstairs in my room! Call me if you need anything."
I heard a sharp intake of breath as few footsteps were taken. Then, a door closed with a bang. I flopped down on my bed and rested my chin on my hands; contemplating what to do. Suddenly, my phone rang; the tone marimba playing. I dunno why but I loved that tone a lot. People have asked me to change it but I just like it a lot. Once, I didn't pick up a phone just to listen to the tone. Weird, I know. I fished out my phone from my jeans pocket and looked at the caller ID- Phee. I smiled and slid my finger across the screen; thus, answering the phone.
"WHERE THE ACTUAL FLAPJACK HAVE YOU BEEN?! No calls, no messages! Did you die somewhere?" My friend's worried voice sounded from the other end. I held my phone a little away from my ear and sighed.
"I'm sorry. I was kind of busy. With mom not being here, I had to keep a check on the studio."
"It's okay. Next time don't do it or else I'll kill you."
"Way to be gentle, Phoebe." I chuckled dryly at my best friend.
Phoebe Walters and I've been friends since as long as I can remember. We were like two peas in a pod. Inseparable; that's what we were. She could sense my discomfort any time. And, right now it kind of proved as a disadvantage.
"Fought with someone?" She asked. Damn you, Phoebe, for knowing me so well.
"Er, no." I quickly, replied. I heard her groan.
"Just shut up and tell me who's it!"
"Um, mom."
"Go talk to her and tell her sorry for whatever you said. She'll forgive you. I'm sure of it."
"Uh, she's busy with a contract." I tried reasoning. But, when Phoebe was determined, there was no stopping her.
"She got a new contract?" I gulped, if she came to know that mom signed a deal with One Direction's manager; then she would kill me. She absolutely -
"Earth to Rebecca! What're you thinking about? Actually, that doesn't even matter. Go talk to you mom right now!" She's one strange girl. Sometimes, I worry about her sanity.
"I don't think -" I opened my mouth to say something but she cut me off.
"Go!! Bye!" Before I could reply, she had hung up the phone. I sighed. Well, here goes nothing. I climbed out of the bed and made my way to mom's room. I gently knocked on the door. After a few seconds of silence, a voice called out,
"Come in!" I turned the knob and entered inside. My mom was lying on the bed, her laptop beside her. I looked around the room. Her room was pretty simple yet elegant. It had shades of grey paint coated around it and millions of frames hung on the walls. The interior of the room looked quite elegant and sweet. I walked over to my mom and sat down. She looked at me for a while then held her hands out for an embrace. I broke into tears and hugged her.
"Sorry, mom! I shouldn't have done that. I was just angry for not knowing about them." I blabbered quickly. She chuckled, "It's okay, sweetie."
"I wuv wou." I tried to say but my voice was muffled on her shoulder. She just nodded and broke apart, "I love you too, honey." I smiled at her. She knows me too well. I looked at her laptop. An compose email browser was opened. The email address read Paul Higgins.
"Who's Paul?" I asked, curiously. Mom looked at the laptop then back at me.
"He's 1D's manager. The one you met day before yesterday. He had send me various lyrics and themes of the new album so that I could decide what type of dance suited them the best. I nodded in understanding.
"Uh, so, Michelle. I, uh, wanted to ask you something." My mom said, looking away from me.
"Yeah, go ahead." I ushered her to continue. She sighed but complied to my wish, "I called them over for dinner tomorrow. Is that okay with you?" I wished to say no but something in me told me to say yes.
"Sure. No problem." I faked a smile, hoping she couldn't see through my façade. She grinned at me, "Thank you, baby! I love you!"
Okay, that was fast. I didn't expect I would be having dinner with the boys who stole millions of hearts. Let's see what tomorrow has in store for us. I just hope everything works out smoothly just like it worked out today.
