You heard the all too familiar whistle as you sat strumming your guitar on the porch outside. The breeze was blowing through your hair while Kennedy sat closely to Hangman across the table from you. You stopped playing and smiled looking out into the distance. He was calling for you. His lips brushed against the soft skin of your neck. You giggled softly, "You're up awfully late." you smiled at him.
"Your bed is significantly softer than mine." He commented before sitting next to you. He had his shirt off enjoying the cooler weather.
"How do you feel about a double nighter?" Kennedy asked breaking the comfortable silence as you absentmindedly picked at the guitar strings. You groaned thinking it over.
"What are the times?" You honestly hated double billings, they left you completely exhausted.
"Seven and Ten- Thirty?" She was nervous you'd say no. You sighed really weighing your options.
"Fine let's do it." You agreed reluctantly.
"Wait so that means you perform twice that night?" Rooster inquired.
"Yeah, and depending on how Kenny schedules my day, I would have been rolling since four that morning." You told him honestly dreading the fact that you'll have two shows at the end of the night. Rooster held your hand as your mind drifted.
"I'll take it easy on you." She laughed. You rolled your eyes not wanting to believe her. You looked over at Bradley as he sat happily dazed by the breeze. You caught Jake giving Kennedy side glances any chance he got. You smirked at the thought of a possible budding romance between the two of them. He was definitely interested, he watched her every move as if he had never seen someone do that before. The man to your right caught your gaze and kissed the top of your hand. "I'll be back I need to grab some food" he said stretching his limbs before going inside.
"When do you leave? Jake wondered.
"At the end of the summer" you mumbled as you traced circles with your finger on the table.
"That just means we have to pack in as much fun as possible before you go!" He exclaimed.
"In between your certification of course." You pointed out.
"Oh yeah, that's right." He sounded almost disappointed
"You finish around three everyday. We have plenty of time in a day to find ways to get wild." You encouraged him through a mischievous smile.
"I like the way you think Mitchell." He complimented you.
"You're getting a certification in what exactly?" Kennedy asked looking up from her paperwork.
"Dogfighting darling." Hangman loved talking about his skill. As much of a sweetheart he was to you, he was a pilot through and through when it came to his ego.
"Rooster and Hangman are part of a special group. Actually all the people you met last night are. They're Top Gun graduates so they are the top one percent of fighter pilots in the country." You explained as Rooster sat down with a plate full of food.
"What's dogfighting?" She wondered. Her eyes were wide with curiosity as she soaked up every detail.
"The lost art of aerial combat." Rooster chimed in, wiggling his eyebrows making the statement seem bigger. His raspy tone made you smile when you heard his voice.
"And my dad is the one teaching them because, well my dad can't be beat, even by you Hangman." You teased as he glared at you.
"I'm working on it." He defended himself.
"This is just so cool getting to see this side of your life y/n! You've told me about it but seeing it is so different. Have you been on any cool missions?" Your throat clenched and you immediately looked at Bradley. The last time he went out he was with Maverick and they both almost died. When your dad had told you all you wanted to do was hold them both in your arms but you couldn't make it home.
