The Liars Curse

Shame on you

It is 5:30 in the afternoon on a hot Summer Monday as young Daniel is sitting outside his work talking amongst other co-workers.

"This week is gonna suck" proclaimed Tim a co-worker who has been with the company since its opening. Other workers nod and groan in agreement.

"Yeah, I just know we are gonna get "talked" to by the boss because we didn't meet our quota" Daniel said to the group.

The time was now 5:50PM, it was time to start the work day.

While walking inside the massive warehouse building, Daniel's friend and fellow co-worker Milo shouted from a distance. "Hey Daniel wait!"

Daniel stopped to say hello to his friend
"What's up Milo?"

She said out of breath "Have you heard anything regarding your application?"

Daniel had applied the month prior for a leadership position that opened up in his company.

He replied "Nah nothing yet, but I am hopeful soon."

As they made their way to their department they gathered around their boss for the start of shift meeting they had everyday.

There boss whose name was Don was younger then a lot of the other employees in the department than began to speak.

"Good afternoon everyone I hope you all had a good relaxing weekend."

While he continues to talk, Daniel and Milo are talking amongst themselves and a few others.

"God does wonder boy ever shut up?" Daniel said with a bored tone.

"Only when he's not the center of attention" Milo added.

"Which is never, he loves hearing himself talk" said Chris another good friend of Milo and Daniel.

As the meeting was coming to a end their boss Don announced he had  exciting news regarding the management position.

As soon as Daniel heard this his ears perked up.

"I am very pleased to announce that the new lead for our department is Cory."

A few scattered cheers and applauses.

As Daniel heard this news he was bummed, but not devastated he at least knew he could go get some feedback on what he needed to improve on so he could try again at another position.

After the crowd died down Daniel approached his boss.

Don acknowledged Daniel "What's up man?"

As Daniel explained he would like feedback to his boss, Don gave him a puzzled look and responded.

"Daniel, Cory was already pre chosen to be the new lead when the position was posted."

Upon hearing this Daniel was angry, but decided to keep it bottled up. As Daniel kept his cool in tact he calmly told his boss " Don I ain't feeling to well
I think im gonna go home for the day." Don nodded his head and told Daniel to get better.

When Daniel got to his car he let out the loudest scream of anger while punching his steering wheel. He felt betrayed, lied to, and hurt. He felt that the company he loved working for had screwed him over. That the company he worked for had given him false hope and fed him lies.

As Daniel was on his way home he calmed down and thought to himself. "Well ill try again for another position in a month or so, maybe with me leaving early today they will know they screwed up and will do right the next time."

Daniel then remained silent for the rest of the drive home.

He was alone with his thoughts.
