4: irrational jealousy
Alt. Title: smut alert—

To Akiraka Anzen, his cursed technique was, well, a curse in the figurative sense. The first time it manifested, little Anzen, who was just a little less then fifty centimeters tall, entered the dream of someone who fought in a war.

The bloody sights, the detached limbs, and the look of absolute terror left behind on the corpse of tens of hundreds of soldiers haunted him ever since. Little Anzen woke up crying, rushing into his elder sister's room, and tackling her sleeping figure. Akiraka Chise tried to comfort him but the terror in his heart never ceased.

Little Anzen only stopped when he grew too exhausted from crying and fell into a dreamless slumber.

The next time little Anzen dream walked, he entered into a doctor's dream. What he saw made him throw up what he ate that day and for the next following days, little Anzen couldn't take a single bite of meat at all.

This made him particularly vulnerable and for a long time, he refused to eat anything, only drinking water. It lasted until little Anzen collapsed. By the time he got to the hospital, only a single breath was left in him.

Ever since, little Anzen grew sickly, causing his former vigorous mien nowhere to be seen. He got sick easily from then on, and he still couldn't eat meat for more than a year.

His third dream walk was within the dream of a person little Anzen hadn't seen before. That person had two sets of eyes, arms, and a big slit across his stomach that turned out to be a massive mouth. That person was over two meters tall, towering over little Anzen by a lot.

When he raised his gaze, the first thing little Anzen saw was two pair of eyes looking at him as if he were a piece of trash. But by that time, little Anzen had grown numb, as if there was nothing in this world that could ever faze him again.

His thirty-first and last uncontrollable dream walking was when he first entered grade school.

That time, he entered a fellow kid's dream.

And that dream... was the most beautiful dream he had ever seen.

There was a vast meadow as far as the eye could see. Little Anzen stood in the middle of a sea of white flowers, green leaves riding the breeze. There was no sound of gunshots, no cries for help, there were no voices trying to beg for their life; it was just a peaceful meadow with a beautiful scenery.

A scene of warmth and comfort that he had never seen before.

That was the first time little Anzen thought, I didn't think... that dreams could be this stunning.

.

.

Akiraka Anzen had seen many beautiful dreams, just as many as terrifying ones. The first stunning dream he had entered imprinted itself in his mind, never to be forgotten. It was the dream that made him believe that not all dreams were as bad as he first thought.

That sea of flowers engraved itself in his soul; a scenery that helped him get through times he almost gave up.

So, when he stood before Suguru's dreams, Anzen felt as if he had been shocked by lightning.

That same sea of white flowers.

That same feeling of warmth and comfort.

Everything was just like he remembered.

This time around, Anzen decided to force Suguru's consciousness back to his body and Anzen would be the one visiting the other's dreams. He had always wondered what Suguru's consciousness would be like. Would it be filled with the inhumane creatures Anzen showed him?
