"What time did you tell him?" Aspen asks, taking a sip of her tea.
I check my phone. "Twelve."
She whips her head around to look at her clock mounted on the wall. "It's eleven-fifty-eight."
"Trust me," I lean against the wall near the door. "He'll be right on time." Her eyebrows raise, skeptical of my sureness.
Two minutes later, just like I said, Killian shows up with a few knocks on the door.
"Told ya'." I look back at Aspen as I stand up straight to invite him in, and she gives me an eye roll.
Killian is standing outside the apartment with his hands resting in his pockets, and the strap of his bag slouched on his shoulder. He snaps out of staring at the floor, and his honey eyes meet mine. He gives a gentle eyebrow raise when he sees me.
"Hey, Killian," Aspen greets, taking away his attention. "You can go ahead and put your stuff down on the table." She gestures towards her dining table.
I move out of the way, outstretching my arm into the apartment to allow him in. He brushes past me, heading for the table where he sets his things down next to mine.
"Give me a second, I'm going to find my charger." Aspen heads off in the direction of her room.
Killian has his back turned towards me, so I come up behind him and lean to the side so he can see my face. "Anything to drink?"
He turns his head and looks down at me. "No, thanks."
I smile with a small nod before spinning around to the kitchen. As I grab a juice box, the soft sound of a chair being pulled out comes from behind me. And just as I turn around to go back to the table, Aspen emerges from the hallway with a charger in hand.
"We ready to get started?"
"I'm going to the restroom," Aspen slips between her chair and the table. "I'll be right back."
I raise my head up, watching her leave until I see the bathroom door close, then I lean over to Killian.
