PROLOGUE
𝐑𝐎𝐌𝐄 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐂𝐘 always drew curious eyes anywhere they went. But they both did their best to try to ignore the burning stares of pedestrians as they walked around Manhattan, going about their day to day lives—attempting to have some form of normalcy. But people where drawn to the godlike beauty the twins possessed. With the bronzed skin marked with scars, telling secret stories all who looked felt the urge to know. The tattoos that flowed across their skin like the ocean, beautiful, gentle, yet rough and full of rage.
They where built like gods, and many people believed that they were. The stone cords of muscle that peaked out from under their clothes and the sharp cheek bones made those walking by look twice just to see if they where imagining Greek gods walking amongst them.
And yet, they where still Rome and Percy Jackson. Demigods, children of the sea and haunted by macabre nightmares of darker times that made them weary of the night.
Though older, wiser and horribly scared—they still lived on through the deaths of their friends and the ones they considered family.
They lived for those they lost and that was enough for them to keep from crossing the river styx. But it wasn't enough for Rome to stay in New York, despite Percy's complaints.
"Do you have to take a plane? Zeus could totally strike you down from the sky and get rid of you before you even leave the states!" Her brother exclaimed as he lightly shook Rome's shoulders. The girl rolled her eyes at Percy's antics and looked at her mother with a deadpan expression.
"Alright Percy, let's not jinx it before your sister gets on the plane." Sally laughed as she gently pried Percy's hands off Rome's shoulders.
"Plus, I already made a deal with the big man himself, so I should at least survive the first few hours of the flight." The brunette joked, purposely trying to give her brother a heart attack.
Percy blanched and shoved Rome in the direction of her gate, "Well if you're so ready to die young, then be my guest." He grumbled and crossed his arms as Sally smacked him on the back of the head, scolding him to be kind to his sister.
Rome laughed, "Please, I've been ready to die since Zeus lost his thunder bolt and blamed it on Percy." She paused and looked Sally and Percy who narrowed their eyes at the girl, "Please don't tell Maggie I said that, it was a joke." She held her arms up in defense.
Just as Percy was about to open his mouth, the voice on the intercom rang through the airport,
"Flight 1130 is about to begin boarding to London, England—please get your boarding passes ready."
But before Rome could get out her ticket, Percy jumped onto her and crushed her into a hug, one that could rival their mother's. He buried his face into her shoulder and flung his arms around her shoulders. Rome grinned and wrapped her arms around his middle, leaning her head against his.
"You don't have to go, Romie." He muttered, both ignoring the fact that Sally was taking pictures of their goodbye moment.
"Yeah I do." She whispered back, squeezing a little tighter. Rome blinked back the tears that threatened to fall down her cheeks. She knew it was time to begin again. Her brother has chosen to stay and grow his own life on his own and train other demi-gods like them—as well as working on his masters in Greek mythology, much like she had.
Percy slowly let her go and let out a watery chuckle, "Yeah, I know," he blinked back his own tears and stepped back, "That doesn't mean I have to like it."
He held out his pinky and and she liked her own with his, a promise they had since as long as they could remember. A loyalty that could withstand the wraith of the gods and the test of time. A link that was only a myth until they became like gods.
Are you with me?
Till the end of time.
Sally crushed the girl into a loving embrace, and Rome felt the tears sink into her hoodie, one that once belonged to a good friend of hers, years ago. The brunette felt her heart squeeze and the icy feeling of doubt that began to seep deep within her bones.
Sally gently ran a hand through Rome's dark hair, "You will do great things Romie. Your new chapter is just about to begin and just think about all the wonderful adventures you'll go on."
Rome let out a choked laugh, "You said that just before I ran into camp half blood and moments before I almost lost my arm."
Sally let her daughter go shot her an unamused look, "Yes, and who's fault was that?" She sarcastically pondered as she quirked and eyebrow.
"Listen, I thought it was a good strategy alright?" Rome tired to defend her twelve year old self who thought that punching a Minotaur in the face so Percy could run was a great idea.
Though on the bright side, her right arm now has a sick scar on it.
Sally saw the doubt leave her daughter's sea glass eyes and felt proud that she successfully distracted Rome enough to forget her fears. At least for the moment.
She kissed Rome's brow and whispered an 'I love you' before playfully shoving her over to Percy.
The said boy embraced her one last time and shoved a little box into her hoodie pocket, "Don't cause any earthquakes while you're gone, Dory," he grinned.
Rome slid her hand into her pocked, holding onto the box tightly, "Please Nemo, do you even know who I am?"
She picked up her carry on luggage and walked towards her gate, ticket in hand and a little amused grin on her face.
"I'm the destroyer of worlds."
