"Rosalie!"

I felt the shock course through my veins, it was strange to hear such words spat at me with no mercy. I always knew Rosalie wasn't the most kindly versed Cullen in the family but she had never directed her anger towards me. Out of all the things she said to anyone -Bella included, I know it had never been this cruel.

I bit my cheek to stop the tears from forming, the silence in the room did nothing to help my internal feud. It was obvious that everyone was watching me, waiting to see how I would respond. I sucked in a breath and tightened my brows, hiding how upset I really was.

"I know you only said that out of spite and anger, which is why I'll try not to take it to heart. But I truly never thought anyone would use my dead parents against me in an argument." I mumbled out the last part fully knowing every vampire in the room heard me loud and clear.

"Hi Echo, Bella." A light voice ringed out, slicing through the tense atmosphere. I glanced to the side and noticed Alice and Jasper had finally joined the scene to which I was grateful for. I silently looked on as her and Bella finally introduced themselves in a formal setting. This served as a good distraction as I felt Rosalie's eyes on the side of my head, to which Emmett took a small step forward and blocked me from her sight.

These small moments really showed me how much Emmett cared, he read me so easily, even without Edwards telepathy. He was truly keeping his promise that he would protect me, since he went farther beyond and held my heart delicately. It could only make my mind wander to imagine how life would be if we had children. Granted, I don't want any. But love really makes you think of strange things.

As everyone was talking, Emmett linked our fingers together and slowly led me away from the room. For a fraction of a second, I catched Rosalie's eyes but I quickly diverted my attention back to Emmett to hide the pain. I knew this small bump in the road wouldn't greatly affect our friendship but I definitely need some time away from her and her. It could be anywhere from a few hours to a few days. At least until I've heard some form of an apology from her lips.

Only when we had set a comfortable distance from the rest of the Cullens did Emmett let go of my hand. Instead he enveloped me in a tight and comforting embrace, tracing a line to and fro along my spine. The sudden change almost made me cry but I decided to just bury my face in his shoulder to keep my eyes dry.

"You know she didn't actually mean it right?" He whispered into my ear, I shifted slightly before nodding. I drew away from him slightly and lightly skipped deeper into the middle of his room.

"Yeah. I know her well enough to know she didn't mean to hurt me intentionally." All around his room were random trinkets and sports related stuff. He had an entire wall dedicated to personally signed jerseys and balls, right next to a pc gaming system and multiple speakers scattered around his room. Surprisingly he also had books lined up in a bookcase.

"You read books?" I mused. He chuckled behind me before dropping down on a bed in the middle of his room.

"As a matter of a fact, those books are Edwards and Carlisle's. They ran out of room and suggested that I read them." I laughed before grabbing a random book and dropping down beside him.

"Amuse me. What's this book about?"

"Doll. Even a life of eternity and not being able to sleep won't fool me into reading any of those." A choked laugh escaped me and I grasped my stomach as the pains started settling in. Then a sudden realization overcame me.

"Wait. If you don't have the ability to sleep, then why do you have a bed?" I ran my fingers over the sheets before looking at him. He was propped up on one elbow and gave me a thinking face before sighing.

"Even vampires want to feel normal sometimes." I hummed in thought before rolling over and into his arms. The bitter cold of his skin had become nice to the touch after time, it reminded me of the frosty winters back in New York City.

"So you're saying Edward has been stalking you while you sleep for the past few months!?" I gasp before laughing. Bella rolled her eyes at me while tying up her hair into a loose ponytail.

"That's kinda creepy don't you think?" I winced as she lightly slapped my arm. Since we had both gotten involved with Cullen brothers, our relationship as cousins has slowly been growing. We didn't have anyone else to tell our troubles and thoughts to, which is opening our eyes to realize that all that we really had was each other.

"How do you know Emmett hasn't been doing the same thing to you?" I paused as I took a second to think.

"I'm from New York City, Bella. I know to lock my windows at night. Also Emmett is like a glass window pane with me, he would've told me by now." I shrugged my shoulders before standing up. Emmett and Edward had invited us to watch his family play baseball, so we were getting ready for it. She followed me down the stairs before grabbing a beer and setting it down in front of Charlie as he cleaned his shotgun at the table.

If he wasn't the chief of police, I would've been concerned.

Bella was slowly setting the atmosphere to bring up the fact that we are going to go on a date with Edward and Emmett.

She only spent a split second in a silent debate before leaning up against the counter.

"Me and Echo have dates with Edward and Emmett Cullen."

"You sure know how to drop some news." I muttered before she lightly shoved me.

"They're a little old for you guys, aren't they?" He watched us carefully as I rubbed my arm and Bella shifted from foot to foot.

"No, he's a junior. I'm a junior."

Charlie turned to look at me as I bit my lip lightly, well now I had to pull an excuse out of my butt since Bella didn't approach this careful enough.

"You know... In the grand perspective of everything, we are only a grade apart." I brought up my fingers showed how close our ages were.

"Also... They are outside." I loudly sighed as I turned to look at Bella who fidgeted as soon as we made eye contact.

"Ok. Let me do the talking please." Then I turned to look back at Charlie, "Please be nice, they treat us amazingly." He huffed in response.

"All right. Bring them in." My insides felt like they were jittering. In the past, I've never had a boyfriend that meant this much to me, as crude as that sounded. Emmett would be the first person I've ever considered love with, as much as I like him, love was still out of reach, just by a centimeter.

Bella walked over to the door and let them in, Emmett naturally walked around them and made a place standing beside me. While I was comfortably leaned against the counter, he stood nearly frigid.

Edward introduced himself to Charlie, who couldn't muster more than a distasteful frown. Then it was our turn, Emmett walked towards Charlie and extended a hand. My heart dropped when I realized that Charlie would feel how cold Emmett's body temperature is. I could tell Edward took a tiny step forward, but to our delight, Charlie ignored Emmett's hand and instead stared him in the eye.

"You know why I'm suspicious of you right?"

Silence.

"Uh... no."

Bella slid away from Edward and walked up to me, taking my arm in hers. She was shaking furiously, she was just as terrified as me.

"I'll give you benefit of the doubt." None of us was sure what to say, but Edward was still standing comfortably. So I could only imagine that Charlie didn't have the slightest clue of what we were scared of.

"Ok, well we are going to go now." I muttered, grabbing Emmett's hand and making my way towards the door. As soon as we got out and into the cars, I propped my elbow up on Emmett's jeep door and looked ahead.

"Don't worry, he just thought Emmett was after your money."
