~Mikhail~
I didn’t know what to think. I had trusted Roger like I would trust any friend. I don’t know what I thought of the corporation, but Roger definitely took advantage of us here.
The two men came forward, grabbing us roughly on our shoulders, spinning us around. Elle was frozen in shock, the onslaught of information slowing her down. But I knew I wasn’t going to be taken away this easy. I had never told Roger my power, no matter how many times he asked me. I have trusted Roger more than I had trusted anyone else in my life, but I never told anyone my gift. I only ever told Elle, but I felt connected to her somehow.
The betrayal of Roger stung, but somehow I wasn’t too surprised. I trusted Roger, but I knew he had his own side, and he wasn’t protecting anyone but himself. I should have seen something like this coming.
I turned towards the two men, my eyes flashing. They were wearing gloves and were careful not to look in our eyes. They were ready for any sort of gift, but unfortunately, they had left their ears exposed. I smiled ruthlessly, slight guilt pushing inside of my stomach. I hated using my gift, but I knew I had to.
“Let us go now.”
Hesitation appeared in the men’s eyes, their grips loosening slightly. I started to pull at my arm, motioning for Elle to do the same. Panic had reached her eyes, immobilizing her body for a few moments. She finally gained control of her body the same moment Roger realized what was happening.
“No! Don’t listen to them!”
His eyes narrowed in concentration, the panic that had shown in his eyes momentarily disappearing. All of a sudden my arms grew sluggishly and slowly moved to a stop, frozen beside me. I struggled furiously, watching Elle do the same.
Roger smiled ruthlessly, not taking his eyes away from our arms.
“You can’t fight me. I’m too powerful.”
“You’ll never get away with this. My father will find you. He’ll destroy you.”
Roger sneered at Elle’s outburst. I glanced at her, my mind whirring. She wasn’t lying, she couldn’t be. But Roger didn’t know that.
“He will! Jon will find you! He won’t let you take me.”
Roger froze, his concentration slipping, giving me the opportunity I needed to slip through his grasp, and grab Elle’s hand, pulling her through the door. Roger growled menacingly, trying to bring his attention back to us, but he had lost it. We were out of his reach. We ran down the driveway, running towards the car, heavy footsteps of the two men behind us.
“You can’t escape the corporation, they will find you!”
Rogers voice was swallowed by the wind as the car sped down the street and away from the men chasing behind us.
Elle’s eyes were wide, her breathing coming out in gasps. My own mind was frozen, shock and fright shaking my hands. The corporation weren’t who they said they were, and they were after us.

I was trying to sort through my thoughts, my mind reeling. All of a sudden exhaustion rolled over me, slumping me over in my seat. The voices in my head grew, my head throbbing. I groaned, reaching out for support.
I heard Mikhail call out my name, panic in his voice. I tried to reply, but my mouth felt like it had swollen to twice its size. The voices kept growing louder and louder. The world was spinning, the colors slowly fading until there was just black.

“She will be ok, she just had a bad migraine. What do you think could have caused this?”
The nurse’s voice floated through my mind, my mind slow to process. I tried to open my eyes, my eyelids heavy.
“We were just taking a ride around town and then the headache came suddenly.”
I heard Mikhail’s breathless voice in my mind, echoing throughout my head. He was lying, I knew that. Why was he lying? What had happened to me?
Slowly the memories came back to me. Roger, the corporation, escaping. My eyes flew open, a gasp escaping from my lips. The bright lights blinded me momentarily, and I cried out, a hand flying to cover my eyes.
I heard Mikhail run over to my side, grabbing my hand. I squinted, looking up at his dark form through the bright lights.
“What happened to me?”
I mumbled, the words coming out slurred. The last thing I remembered was the world turning slowly black, voices penetrating my mind.
“You had a bad migraine. We don’t know how it happened.”
But I saw something else in his eyes that told me otherwise. He thought it had something to do with Jon. But how could it?
“How long have we been here?”
I looked around, the white room empty except for Mikhail and I. There were no windows so I couldn’t guess the time.
“Where is everyone?”
Mikhail’s eyes shifted slightly, giving away to hesitation. I looked at him, my eyes narrowing.
“What’s wrong Mikhail?”
He hesitated before answering, his eyes pleading with me to not freak out.
“Your dad’s here. Jon’s here.”
