I tried to get up, I couldn’t let Mikhail run out like that. Jon rushed to my side, gently pushing me back down. I struggled with him, but stopped as soon as I realized he wasn’t letting me go anywhere anytime soon.
“You can’t go anywhere, you still aren’t completely stable.”
I lay back down, my mind still whirling. I needed to find him, he could get hurt so easily. He wasn’t emotionally stable right now, who knew what he was going to do. I looked at Jon, a desperate feeling growing in my stomach.
“You have to go after him. If I can’t you can. Please Jon.”
I looked at him, pleading. Jon looked in my eyes, grief and regret in his eyes. His hands went limp as his head dropped. He knew I was right. He got up slowly, giving my hand a squeeze before turning towards the door.
“Thank you.”
I said quietly as the door shut behind him. I sat back in my bed and waited.
~
The silence was suffocating me. Jon had been gone for more than ten minutes, and I was starting to get worried. I couldn’t hear anything, not the usually scurry of nurses or the murmur of voices. I didn’t hear anything.
I shifter nervously in my bed, glancing around. The machines beside me were still blinking resolutely, still alive. I turned back towards the door, waiting anxiously for Jon to appear in the doorway.
The silence was broken by footsteps. They echoed outside the door, getting louder and louder.
Tap, tap
“Jon?”
They stopped.
Silence.

I spun around, my heart beat quickening. They couldn’t have left. Elle wasn’t anywhere near stable enough to get up, and even if she tried, Jon wouldn’t let her.
I ran back down the corridor, looking left and right for them. The silence was piercing, and starting to get to my head. I continued running, the only sound the tap of my feet against the smooth floor. I reached the end of the hallway, finding nothing. Just another empty room.
I leaned against the wall, sliding down until I was sitting on the ground. The room was starting to spin, the edges of my vision getting slightly fuzzy. I put my head in my hands, begging myself to stay conscious and to calm down.
My heart was beating loudly, too loudly.
But then it stopped.
That wasn’t me heart.
I looked up slowly, staring at a pair of black shoes, then black pants, then black suit and finally a face.
“It’s been too long Mikhail.”

My eyes fluttered open, and my hand flew to my head. I groaned, a splitting pain shooting through my head. I reached out, my hand hitting the side of something. I opened my eyes, but realizing that it was pitch dark, I couldn’t see anything. I ran my hand along the wall, feeling as it curved and continued jus above my head.
I was curled up in a small space, my knees meeting my chest. I tried stretching my legs out, but realizing I couldn’t. My head was spinning distractedly as I tried to process where I was. There were noises coming from outside my compartment, and every now and then I was jostled, as if I had hit something, almost as if I was in a car.
A car.
I was in the trunk of a car, my prisoners driving me.
I started to panic, trying to push at my confinement. My breathing came out in short gasps, my lungs constricting.
I pounded against the walls, not able to scream. I couldn’t find my voice. After what seemed like forever, my arms grew cramped and I stopped, curling into an even tighter ball. My breathing came out sharper as frightened tears started to fall down my face.
That’s when I heard the voices.
“We had to take her to the corporation. We can’t keep her in confinement forever.”
The corporation. They had found me.
