2017- A Couple Of Weeks After Meeting Harry and William
"Hey, good morning," William says in a cheery tone as he picks up his phone.
"Maybe for you, but so far it hasn't felt like it." Harry grumbled from the other end of the phone.
"What? Did something happen?" William frowned as he got up from the table, giving Kate a quick glance before excusing himself from the breakfast table.
"I don't know, you tell me." Harry spoke with a sarcastic tone in his voice as he stared out the back passenger window of his black Audi. Coming from Highgrove House, there was still an hour to go before he got to London.
"What are you talking about?"
Harry, already frustrated, was done playing games. "Will, I talked to dad. I was with him this morning. He told me everything."
Silence followed. Will was speechless, he knew Harry would find out, being the stubborn person he was, but Will was hoping for more time. He should've known Harry would've been just as eager to find out more information.
"I saw the DNA results. Give it up already, Will. If you knew there was a possibility, why didn't you tell me?" Harry questioned. Will brushed a hand through his hair and sighed.
"I'm sorry. I just wanted to protect you." Harry rolled his eyes on the other side of the phone, not really believing William. "But hey, before you judge me just let me explain myself, ok?"
Harry, having time to kill on the drive back to London, didn't see much of an option but to hear his brother out. Harry sighed, "Alright, go ahead. But that doesn't mean I'm not mad at you, still."
"That's fine." William took a deep breath as he tried to think of the right words to say. "Look, like you, I was a bit upset when I found out. In fact, I kind of wished I hadn't found out," Will said, shaking his head. "Nevertheless, Dad told me back when I was getting serious about Kate. I guess it was supposed to be some sort of lesson about marriage or something.
"It honestly shocked me when I found out. Dad and I get along just well compared to you and him, but this did make me see him in a darker light. Despite having an affair already, he took advantage of Mum, when she was at her weakest."
"Yeah, although Dad did say that mum knew what was going on and that she initiated it," Harry commented.
"Yes, that's what dad said and I want to believe he's telling the truth about that. Anyways, after he told me what happened, he said it was all just a mistake, and that it only made them more eager to get a divorce. He didn't think anything of it after that, but just wanted me to be careful and not let lust drive my actions."
"Wait, was he assuming you were with Kate because of lust?" Harry asked, disgusted with his father.
"I don't know what Dad thought. But I think he realized that I truly loved Kate when I told him I was going to ask Gran's permission to marry her." Will sat down on his bed as he talked to Harry. "Anyhow, Dad never told me not to tell you, but I made the decision to keep it from you. At the time, I didn't see how this would be important. I only thought it would cause more harm if you knew. You already had a strained relationship with dad and if this secret made me think differently of Dad, I could only imagine what you would think of him.
"You already hate Dad for the affair and the bulimia he caused in Mum. I thought if you knew about this you would side with her and see him as the villain. I didn't want this to damage your relationship with him even more."
