a flower & a sword

HI! WELCOME TO a flower & a sword, where I'm basically going to be posting random tidbits of stuff about my books and doing things such as Q&As. While I used to do these directly within my novels, I thought it would be easier to have a separate book for it, especially with three series of books posted on my account, and a few of them becoming part of the Paid Stories Program. This is also going to serve as a directory for my account.

Allow me to introduce myself: my name is Karlie, and I go by the name Karlie Nyx online, but you can call me Karlie, Nyx or Nyxie. I'm currently sixteen years old and I'm from Hong Kong, though I study in the UK at a boarding school. I speak fluent Cantonese, Mandarin and English, and can understand and somewhat speak Shanghainese. Emphasise on the somewhat. I've been writing since I was eight years old, and won the Wattys in 2021, to my own eternal surprise.

I've been the writer of many books in the past seven years, but the three currently posted on this account are Briarville Girls, which is on indefinite hiatus and only has one completed book, Silk and Steel Chronicles, which consists of the entirety of the books set in the same world as The Sable Spy, etc., and the upcoming Bridewater College series. I'm not going to be posting much, if any, information about the first series here, since I wrote it almost two years ago and no one really reads it anyways. Most of the stuff here will be about Silk and Steel.

Before I go on for too long, I'd also just like to remind you all that if you want to talk to me privately, one-on-one, it might be better to go to my Instagram (@nyxiewrites) and DM me there. I also have quite a bit of information posted on that account, including writing tips and just random stuff about my own work. Since I had to take down a lot of my aesthetics due to copyright issues with my Paid novels, a lot of the graphics are currently only available on Instagram.
