You feel like you're going to die. You'd been walking along in the shadows of near alleyways for what feels like hours though it probably hasn't been that long but you've begun to lose your sense of time. The cold air was nipping at your bare arms causing you to hold them as tight as you could but your body temperature wasn't exactly working it's magic at the moment.

You've passed quite a few people on the rough roads. The sidewalk with trash haphazardly thrown wherever in every direction. You all of sudden crash face first with the hard concrete. You feel tears forming in your eyes. You pick your head up and look over your shoulder to see a large hole in the concrete. Your foot felt swollen, you don't think it was broken but it was more than likely sprained.

You turned and sat up and pulled yourself over to lean back against a dumpster near by. You hugged your knees and let silent sobs rack your body. You were shaking violently, partly because it was freezing but also because you had an overwhelming feeling of dread. What was to become of you?

Crying is alright in it's way but you have to stop sooner or later and than you still have to decide what to do. You lifted your head towards the sky. You couldn't really make out the stars because of the overwhelming light coming from the city that never sleeps.

You sigh. Now what? You thought.  You lowered your head again and just sat there with no idea of what to do and no where to go. Sleep eventually overcame you and the world faded away.

You awoke to something or someone shaking you roughly. "Wake up."
A voice said sharply. You shook yourself and looked up to see a group of men starring down at you with not so friendly expressions on their faces.

"Who are you? And what are you doing hanging around here?" The first man said. He was tall, lanky and had a thick black head of hair almost like an afro but not quite. He sneered as he starred down at you.

You wiped your eyes that were still tear stained. "My name is (Y/N) and I have no home to go to." You said tears threatening to fall again but you held them in.

The three of them exchanged a look. The first one looked down at you with a pondering look. He put his hand under his chin. Than a cruel smile spread across his face and he knelt down. "We'll give you a place to go kid. But that means you gotta work for us to earn your keep. Got that?" He said.

You hesitated. You didn't have anywhere else to go. What choice did you have? You were only 7. You tentatively nodded. He grinned, grabbed your arm and pulled you up. As you tried to gain balance you had forgotten about last night and tumbled over. "My foot." You cried. " My foot hurts. I tripped in a big hole."

The tall man rolled his eyes but picked you up and slung you over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes. You didn't bother making your discomfort from the position known for fear they would see you as too big a nuisance and rethink keeping you alive.

You arrived in some large abandoned factory some time later. One of the other men stepped ahead and opened the large door to the inside and shut the door behind you all. This man was also tall and rather top heavy. He was buff and dressed in a thin leather vest and black slacks. His hair was combed over and he had a bandanna tied around his forehead. The third man was a little shorter than the other two but he was also muscular and had a long dark mustache. He also wore a leather vest and black pants.

The taller skinny man who had carried you finally set you down not so gently on a worn down cushioned chair. He also wore the same attire the other two did and you now noticed all three of them had various snaky looking tattoos on their chest and arms. The bigger one said; "What are we gonna do with her?"

"Yeah Fong? Why did we bring this kid back with us?" The shorter one said.

Fong you assumed ushered them both further where you could hear their whispering but not what they were saying. You sat there slightly shaking wondering what Fong could possibly have in mind for you. He clearly had brought you back for a purpose? So what was it?

A few minutes later all three of them approached you with snide smiles. Fong looked down at you and said; "Look kid, we don't normally keep people around who trespass on our territory but you could be of some use to us."

You shivered. "How so?"

"We have our living to make. Same as anyone else and if people get in our way we take ''em out." The tall buff one said smiling cruelly.

"We could use someone innocent looking to handle the more complicated jobs. You see what I mean kid?" Fong said.

You nodded. "Yes sir." Fong and the other two smiled. "Good. Very good. And if you do good for us you'll get a cut too. We'll let ya stay as long as you do as we say. Deal?" Fong said still grinning. You nodded you learned the bigger was Sid and the shorter one was Tsoi. Fong led you to a small room closer to the back of the building only occupied by a half burnt candle with matches next to it and an old worn down foam mattress.

"You will stay here until we need you." Fong said sharply but still with that evil smirk on his lips. Without giving you a chance to respond he practically shoved you in and shut the door behind you. You heard it click and footsteps getting further away. You collapsed on the mattress and let your tears out again. Still keeping silent.

Is this what I'm supposed to be to stay alive? How long will I last?

Your mind raced with these questions until your head hurt. You just laid there with tears sticking to your cheeks as you succumbed to sleep once again.
