I fell asleep with all my makeup on and my hair still in it's braid, so when I woke up there was lipstick all over my white pillow case and my hair was still pinned to my head. I looked over at the clock, it read 9:37. I squinted, was that right? Then I realized it was Saturday, I rolled myself out of bed and went to get ready. I brushed my hair and threw it in a bun, then decided I could just where a little mascara. I went to my closet and put on a pair of black leggings and a baggy sweatshirt, along with a pair of black Nike's. My stomach growled, great, I thought but then remembered the McDonald's in the food court, that made my stomach grumble even louder.
There wasn't anyone at the McDonald's and the two employees were playing cards behind the counter. One of the looked up and saw me, her name tag said Sarah. "What can I get you?" she asked politely, I looked up at the menu, "I'll have two sausage, egg mcmuffins and a medium chocolate chip frappe." She nodded, "coming up." Between the two of them it took only a few minutes to make it and I decided to take my food back to my dorm. I past Laura in the hall and when she saw the food in my hand she gave me a disgusted look, but what else can you expect from some one who wears skinny jeans and high heels on a Saturday. If I could I would walk around barefoot and in my underwear.
I slipped into my room without anyone else seeing me. I unwrapped my sandwiches and laid out the paper on my bed to keep crumbs from getting on it. Once I finished I thought about what I should do with the rest of my day, it was only 10:30. I thought for a while but couldn't come up with anything so I took a walk, but when I stepped out of my room and saw my door I knew what I was going to do. I walked up to Ian's door and knocked quietly three times, he opened it slowly and poked his head out. "Hi," I said and gave a little wave, "the paintings on your door are amazing... and I was wondering if you could help me with mine," I nervously twiddled my thumbs. "Uh, yeah sure," he replied, rubbing the back of his neck. "Just one thing," I said, "I don't have any paint."
He waved it away, "that's okay, we'll just get some from the craft store." I stared at him, "what?" he asked, confused. "Do you have everything here?" I asked awestruck. He chuckled and shook his head, "pretty much." He stepped out of his room and shut the door behind him, "the store is way," he said pointing down the hall to our right. We walked in silence for a while until he asked, "so what do you want to paint on your door?" I hadn't actually put any thought into that, "um, I was thinking roses. Since, ya know, my name is Rose." I mentally smacked myself on the forehead, why do you have to be so awkward around him?! I scolded, but on the outside I smiled politely.
I had been so focused on messing up in front of Ian that I forgot where we were going and we arrived at the craft store. We walked to acrylic paints isle, "so what colors were you thinking?" Ian asked me. I skimmed through all the colors, "I thought we could do a few different shades of purple and blue and then throw in a splash of pink," I told him, "oh and I want my name to be in green." He nodded, "that sounds good, go ahead and pick out your colors." I picked out two shades of purple, three shades of blue, and a pink and green along with white and black for mixing and detailing. "Does this look good?" I asked Ian holding the paints out to him. "why are you asking me?" he said, "well you're the artist!" I yelled throwing my hands in the air and tossing the bottles of paint on the floor. "Oops," I blushed and looked around, Ian just laughed.
After we picked them all up, we went to check out and brought them back to my room. "You wanna start on your name and I can sketch the roses?" Ian asked, "Yeah, that sounds great," I replied. We worked side by side for hours, so close I could smell his after shave. It was about 6:50 when we decided to save the rest for tomorrow and I was only about half finished. We were picking up the paints and paint brushed when we both leaned down to pick up the same thing and our hands touched. It was super cliche but heat raced up my arm from where we touched. We looked up at each other and Ian slowly leaned in, I thought he was going to kiss me but he pulled back. I was surprised at my own disappointment and was confused. We said our good-byes and I laid in my bed, thinking about all my mixed feelings.
