Everything happened all at once. At the age of 6 or so, you wouldn't understand the world yet in its entirety but...something happened...Something that changed everything. All of it started 13 years ago.

In the car, a man gripped the steering wheel tightly and he looked at the rearview mirror every second. Going at 60 miles an hour on the highway, there was no place to pull over except for the emergency lanes as his hands shook ever so slightly A little girl with a baseball cap on her head held tight onto her stuffed frog, staring at her father with nervous eyes. A large, black fur-coated dog layed down on the back seat next to her, his head propped in her lap sleeping soundly. The little girl's father, however, wasn't looking behind him. He was focused entirely on the road ahead.

"D-daddy..." His daughter quivered. Her father didn't answer as he focused on the road. "Daddy!" she called again, loudly.

"What!?" His sudden outburst made his daughter flinch hugging her stuffed animal tightly as she whimpered.

Her father took a shaky deep breath, looking in the rearview mirror at his daughter's reflection. Her father stared at his little girl apologetically before speaking up "I'm sorry honey I just..." He took a deep breath before continuing. "I didn't mean to yell at you."

"Where're we going?"

Her father looked at her reassuringly. "Somewhere safe. Don't worry about it okay? It's gonna be fine I promise, just stay close and listen. Okay?" The little girl nodded and her father sighed "Good girl. We're almost there."

A few minutes later, they arrived. It was a large gate that blocked off the entrance, and her father went out of the car to unlock it. Once the gate opened, he hopped back in the car to drive in, got out, and closed the gate behind them. They drove through the forest for a few minutes until he stops the car and motioned for his daughter to climb down from the backseat but the dog stayed in the vehicle. As soon as they were out, he locked the doors and put the keys in his pocket, then he pulled her hand gently leading her toward a lighthouse.

"What's that?" She asked, looking up at him.

Her father responded, "It's our new home." He looked back to the car and whistled loudly. "Jax! Come here, boy!" The large Great Dane hopped out of the car, sprinting to them.

She followed after him trying not to let go of her father's hand. Follows her father up the spiral stairs, that lead to a small kitchen and there was a small living room connected to it. Everything inside was a bit rustic but homey, and the couch had a communication radio next to it on a table side. After several more minutes of exploring the lighthouse, Jax sat on the couch making himself comfy on the cushions. The girl sat next to him snuggling under her blanket as she watched her father move around the boxes and bags of clothes.

"We have about enough food and medicine for a year." "If we ration everything right it'll last us a whole winter." Her father looked at her and smiled. "Okay baby, let's get you settled." He picked up her suitcase from where he set it on the floor. The little girl waddled behind him with her blanket wrapped tightly around her body, clutching onto her stuffed animal.

"Why can't we go back home?"

Her father looked at her and placed his hands on her shoulders. "Things are changing ok? I'll tell you when you're a bit older. The world isn't safe anymore."

"Why?"

"Because there are bad men who will try to take you away from me and I won't let them do that. So we're gonna live here I might need your help in the meantime. Do you think you can be my helper?" She nodded and hugged her stuffed animal closer to herself. "You're a smart girl and I know you can handle yourself."
