"This is it, I guess." Abigail ducked her chin to peer past Martha to the average suburban home. Martha pressed the heels of her palms into her eyes and groaned.

"Even with the potion, I feel like I've been hexed into next week." While the numbing concoction eased the worst of her pain, Vecna's magic packed quite a punch.

"You look it, too." Abigail shifted the gears into park. Their pickup towered behind Steve's car, where the kids piled out. They looked like they'd just retired from battle. In truth, they had.

"Thanks," Martha grumbled, avoiding the instinct to roll her eyes for fear of pain. She was just about to shove open the passenger door when suddenly it swung open, and there waiting was Steve Harrington. He kept one hand on the edge of the door and ran the other through his hair. It must've been a nervous tick of his.

"Nance and Robin should be back soon. We'll meet up in the basement." He looked over his shoulder to watch the kids help max down the drive.

"The Basement?" Martha raised a brow. Steve shrugged sheepishly, and the slightest bit of pink bloomed on his cheek.

"It's the best place to set up operations right now. Mrs. Wheeler only goes down there to do laundry, so we shouldn't have a problem." Steve held out a hand to her as Abigail slammed the door behind her with the backpack slung over one shoulder. Martha took his hand and was thankful she had something to steady her as she shakily stepped onto solid ground. She paused to blink her way through a dizzy spell. Steve narrowed his eyes in a wince and offered her his arm. Martha took it with a smile.

"Lead the way."

By the time they descended the steps into the cement-floored basement, the boys had already bundled Max in a Star Wars blanket and were actively smothering her. The Wheeler's basement was what Martha would call well-loved. It was clearly a hideout for a group of pubescent boys, which included Dustin and Lucas. Posters plastered the walls with anything from Star Trek to Goonies. There were four lumpy and well-worn bean bag chairs in differing colors and a card table strewn with books, electronics, and fantasy figurines. The only spot untouched was where a washer and dryer were tucked beneath the stairs.
