Year 843
Amelia woke up suddenly. She had been dragged out of a deep sleep by someone shaking her. She opened her eyes, expecting to see Hitch, but it was Millie.
"Come on! Breakfast is about to start, and Hitch was up ages ago!"
Amelia yawned, and said, "Hitch is already up? I really did sleep in, then."
"Yeah, and you're going to miss breakfast! Come on!"
As she got dressed, Amelia thought about the day ahead. They had a morning class where they would be given their ODM gear to wear all day and a workout in the afternoon, but other than that, nothing. As the two girls left the cabin, cadets were going to the dining hall for the breakfast.
Hitch joined them as they sat down at their normal table, but she didn't talk to Amelia. Amelia tried to talk to her, but she replied with answers that shut down the conversations. Millie and Noa watched the two of them warily, afraid they might argue again. But nothing happened.
In their lesson, the instructor did a short recap of their class two days ago. Hitch sat next to Amelia, but didn't say a word. Amelia hoped she hadn't done anything wrong the day before to anger Hitch, but she didn't know, because Hitch wouldn't talk to her.
The instructor showed them how to put it on, then gave them all a case with the gear. As Amelia was putting on hers, she asked, "Hitch, can you help me out?"
Hitch looked over and said, "sure."
After Hitch had finished helping Amelia put on her gear, Amelia helped Hitch with hers. While doing so, Amelia asked, "Hitch, are you alright? Why won't you talk to me?"
"I'm just not feeling talkative today."
"... okay."
Amelia didn't believe that it was just that. Someone was bothering Hitch, and sure, they had only known each other for a few days, but Amelia wanted to find out what was wrong and fix it.
When the instructor dismissed them, the class sped for the door, but the gear weighed them all down. Millie fell over and Noa had to help her up. As he did, Amelia and Hitch looked back to check if Millie was alright, and they saw her blushing. The two girls looked at each other, smiled, and then left when Millie was back on her feet.
The rest of the day went by slowly. Amelia and Hitch got a few conversations going, but they didn't last long.
The gear weighed them down a lot. It was heavy, and made simple things like running hard. By the end of the workout, Amelia felt like she was going to die, but even more so than the day before. After the gruesome exercise, the cadets were finally allowed to take off the gear.

At dinner, Amelia and Hitch were talking again. Then, Amelia asked the question.
"Hitch..." said Amelia
"Yeah?" she answered.
"Why?"
Hitch looked over, puzzled, "Huh?"
"Why," Amelia asked, "did you get so worked up last night because of that jerkwad?"
Hitch laughed, and said, "I don't know. I just got angry because you're an amazing person and I don't think that anyone should get mad at you because you kicked their butt."
"Thanks," said Amelia, "I didn't think anyone except for my friend Ella would ever do that for me."
Millie and Noa let out relieved sighs. When Amelia and Hitch looked at them, Noa laughed and said, "You two are so stubborn we thought you might not make up."
"Stubborn?" asked the two girls, simultaneously.
"Mhm," Millie nodded, "Amelia, you're here solely because you want to leave the walls, and Hitch, you just give off a stubborn vibe."
Hitch raised an eyebrow, "A vibe?"
"Yep," said Noa.
"And what about wanting to go outside the walls is stubborn?" asked Amelia.
"Well, you were probably told that doing that was stupid, but here you are trying to do it anyway. Stubborn."
"Okay, I accept that."
"But a vibe?" asked Hitch again.
Then, all four of them started laughing. Amelia looked around the table. She was glad to have such amazing friends after only a few days.

That night, Amelia wrote a letter to her family.
Dear Mother, Father, Connie, Sunny and Martin,
It has been a crazy few days here at the Training Corps. I have made three friends, be sure to tell Ella that. Please also tell her I'll write to her as soon as I can.
My friends here are Hitch Dreyse, Millie Schmidt and Noa. I don't know what his last name is, he never told us. Hitch is pretty and has an amazing personality. She's very alike to Ella. Millie is kind and very cute. Noa is also very kind and handsome, but don't you all go thinking I have a crush on him or he has a crush on me, it's more him and Millie.
Mother, Father, thank you for allowing me to come. I really like it here, and yes, the training does get hard, but it's bearable.
It's only been three days, but I do miss you all. Please drop by the Luther's sometime soon and check on Ella. I am a bit worried for her, and I would write her a letter now but I don't have the time, paper, or ink.
Now, enough about me, how are you all doing? I hope Connie is faring alright being the "man of the house". But seriously, I hope he's doing well at being the older sibling to Sunny and Martin. Also, don't hold back from letting him have my bedroom. I know he's bored of sleeping in the same room as Sunny and Martin.
Do hug all three of them for me, I miss them very much.
Thank you again,
Sincerely, Amelia.
Amelia finished off the letter with signing her name and then folded it up. She would give it to the mail guy in the morning when he came by.
"Writing a letter to your family?"
"Hm?" Amelia turned and saw Hitch, "yeah, I just finished. What about you? Got any friends to write to?"
"Nah, I didn't have any friends. And if I did, I wouldn't be wasting paper and ink on them," she shrugged, and sat on her bed, "and Amelia..."
"Yeah?"
"Thanks for being my first friend."
Amelia looked over, and smiled. "No problem. Thanks for being my friend."
Hitch laughed, "Night, Amelia."
"Goodnight, Hitch."
Author's Notes
Finally, another chapter done. Sorry about how long this took, I haven't had much free time recently. Writing about friends fighting over small reasons is hard to do. I've got some fun things to write coming up, and yeah! If any of you can guess what's going to happen, well, you are what I refer to as a fortune teller because I've only hinted at it once or twice. Anyway, I hope you're all doing well, and you're enjoying this fic. Have an awesome day/night!
