Hundreds of rogue, rebel vampires filled the beach.

Hundreds who were against the monarchy and wanted to destroy humanity.

Hundreds who hated the monarchs, including my girlfriend, Stella Trueblood.

Hundreds turned to face her at the sound of Natalie's command, and those who weren't busy battling the castle guards instantly took a lunge at her as if they had been waiting all their lives for the taste of royal blood.

If I didn't fend off Natalie, Stella wasn't going to last very long.

Natalie smirked maliciously, "Telekinesis would have come in handy for her at this moment. Too bad she can't use any of her abilities."

"She will when I kill you." With that, I brought my arm down in a stabbing motion, aiming for her neck.

She blocked the hit with her own pair of sai, producing a crystalline sound at the contact of the two quartz blades. I snarled, feeling my fangs grow longer, surely my eyes were glowing a deep shade of light blue. I twirled my sais at an inhuman speed, slashing forward every time I saw an opportunity, but Natalie was good. She'd block the blades with the dexterity you'd expect of an old half-vampire, half-firelighter who'd spent her life mastering murder.

"Why. Are. You. Doing. This?" I said between slashes of my swords.

"They murdered my father! They killed most of my kind!" She landed a kick to my abdomen.

I staggered back, effectively staying on my feet, "Revenge isn't going to bring them back!"

"It. Will. Make. Me. Feel better!" She said as she lunged forward, trying to stab my chest.

I was getting angrier by the second, my sais were starting to glow, jumping, I landed a spinning hook kick to her stomach, and slashed the side of her face a little with my lit-up blade, "Make it stop!"

She growled, using her arms to push herself off the ground from behind, landing in a crouching position, "You're dead, kid."

Over to my right, Stella and Dylan, despite the animosity between them, were fighting back to back, fending off the white haired Deucalion and the crazed rogue vampires that were going after the princess.

Jace was on his own battling Dorian, even though I knew he wanted deeply to be protecting his sister. The best thing he could do, however, was keep the skilled tormentor away from her. The only positive outcome of Natalie's ability was that is was also affecting those fighting for her, so Dorian couldn't use his dangerous ability to torture. Nevertheless, he was still probably the oldest vampire on the battle ground, and a force to be reckoned with, though Jace was doing a good job at keeping him away from Stella.

Some of the guards, those who were successful at beating their opponents, were rushing to Stella's aid, but i wasn't sure how long she would be protected, given the rogues' insatiable bloodlust.

***

I wasn't sure how long we had been fighting. I wasn't even sure which side was winning at that point. Above us, the sky was lit in hues of dark blue and orange, making it seem as if it were on fire. It would soon be nightfall.

I could still hear screaming from every which way, and the sound of the glass swords and ammunition. Natalie's scarlet colored eyes looked like the sunset, and they were focused on me, two burning flames of hatred with the sole purpose of finding my weakness.
