Anna's POV
Two small lights emerged from the shadows. Natalie's eyes weren't blue anymore, they were glowing a shade of orange that was closer to red, scarlet. If I hadn't been so scared that my shaky grip made Stella flinch, I would have been relieved to realize she was like me. At least I wasn't the only freak on a ten mile radius.
"She's adorable," she said to Stella, I shivered more intensely when the glowing scarlet eyes focused on me. Ella snarled at her like a wild animal, but didn't reply.
I buried my head in Stella's shoulder to cover up the fact that I was so nervous, my eyes were starting to water. I had never been this scared in my life. Not the day I woke up in chains, not the day rogues attacked the castle. I wasn't sure why Natalie had this effect on me. Maybe it was the coldness behind her eyes. The color of her glowing irises was warm, but I could tell that the spirt behind them was cold, hardened beyond repair. I silently wondered if Stella had been like that before I met her. I remembered what Jenny first said about her, She's like the devil incarnate, the words echoed in my mind and I involuntarily shuddered again.
Everything about Natalie screamed evil, the way she walked, the way she talked with a posh british accent that came off as creepy instead of attractive.
"I know what you are, little one," her words interrupted my mental rant.
"Please go away," I was surprised at how steady my voice sounded even though I was extremely afraid of her, "leave us alone. We didn't do anything to deserve your constant harassing."
My words seemed to amuse her. I could see her small playful smile because the glow in her eyes illuminated her face just enough to make her seem like one of the most beautiful women I had ever seen, and something out of a horror movie at the same time.
"You didn't do anything to deserve this, unlike--"
Before she could finish Stella cut her off angrily, "Are you trying to pin this on me?! I loved you more than anything and you traded that for power, I didn't do anything to tear us apart, you did!"
I didn't know why, but hearing those words broke my heart. My right hand traveled to my chest, and a small whimper escaped my lips, too low for a human to hear. But Stella wasn't human.
She turned to look at me and her eyes screamed regret for having said that even though I knew she had the right to say she loved Natalie. They used to be engaged, I was just a rebound.
My chest started protesting more painfully, and I knew my eyes were glowing because my vision sharpened like that of an eagle. That and I could see the blue hue iluminating Stella's pained face. She pities me, I thought, She loves Natalie, she pities me.
I involuntarily turned to glare at the beautiful demon-like girl standing over us, as Stella and i were still huddled together on the floor.
Before I knew it I had risen to my feet, and I had miss-creepy-scarlet-eyes pinned against a wall on the other side of the game room, having crashed my way through machines like those in an arcade in the blink of an eye. The lights flickered on, and I could tell that Natalie's expression was full of fear and surprise before it twisted back into her devious smirk. So she did have feelings.
"Huh, I was never this strong when I first started changing into what I am, what we are," she corrected herself, "I can help you. I can make you stronger, because you might be strong for a newbie, but..." she picked me up by my throat, and I started gagging. I tried to pry her hands off my neck, but she was too strong. Then she threw me against Stella, who was a good ten meters away from us, and we both traveled a few feet before Ella steadied me, and hugged me against her chest protectively.
"Leave her alone, Natalie, your beef is with me," she said.
"You'll never be able to control her, she's not a vampire, darling, she's stronger than that," replied Natalie, smiling as always as if the situation was amusing.
"I will find out what she is, and I will help her," said Stella. Then she paused and suddenly her voice was loud and authoritative, "guards!"
Natalie chuckled, "Your silly guards can't take me, but I will give you a break. Either you hand the chiaro sguardo over to us tomorrow, or we kill her. Simple as that. Think about it, pet."
The door burst open and about fifteen warriors including Dylan came rushing in, but Natalie was gone.
