Holding back tears for the hundredth time that day, she buried her face in her pillow and pulled her blankets over her head. The weight of the covers comforted her, along with the darkness they provided. She liked the darkness; it held a calm and peaceful aspect she couldn't get anywhere else. Both made her feel safe in a way no person could anymore.
Keeping the blankets over her head, she turned onto her back and moved her
knees up to keep the blanket from falling. The girl pulled out her phone and scrolled through the notifications she had been avoiding all day."What if I just left everyone on opened and didn't reply?" she thought, not wanting to talk to anyone.
She sighed as she snapped everyone a quick photo of her face and turned her ringer off. She wanted to be left alone; she was tired of everyone letting her down.
The girl opened Wattpad; an app she would only use when she needed an escape from reality. None of the reads looked interesting, though. And, as she scrolled through her recommended, she came across an unfinished story.
This one looked alright. It was about her current favorite fictional character, and the writing looked promising. But it wasn't until she thought about how she wouldn't care if it ever updated again, when she realized she was depressed.
It all added up: the constant sleeping, the isolation, the lack of interest in the things she usually loved to do, the forgetting to eat and drink, the nausea, the cramps, the headaches, the never ending feeling of sadness and numbness, and the way she rarely cared about anything anymore.
She was depressed again, and, if she was being honest with herself, she didn't even care.
