Adelina's POV
Just after my alarm went off Carina came into my room, sat down on the bed, and pulled me into her.
"I didn't mean to upset you last night, bambina," she said softly as she rubbed her thumb up and down my shoulder.
"I know you're nothing like Papa; I just want to make sure you're okay. Because I love you so so much," Carina said, giving me a squeeze at the end.
I looked up at her a moment before wrapping an arm around her waist and nuzzling myself closer to my big sister.
"Anch'io ti voglio bene," I half whispered. (I love you too)
Carina smoothed my hair down and rested her head on top of mine.
"I want to make sure I'm doing what's best for you, that you have everything you need. And if you don't want to go to therapy, you don't have to, just think about it okay?"
I had no intention of really considering it. I was fine. But I could tell she was trying really hard and I wanted to make her feel better, so I agreed. "Okay," I nodded. "I'll think about it."
"Good, thank you." She placed a kiss on my head before unwrapping me from around her and hopping off the bed.
"Now, get ready for school and I'll drive you," she said with a smile before closing the door behind her.
Carina's POV
It was the first day in weeks that Maya and I were both off from work and could have time alone together, so I was excited to get home after dropping Adelina off at school. I popped my head into our bedroom and saw that somehow Maya was still asleep. I smiled when I realized she had rolled over to my side of the bed; she was so gorgeous, messy hair and all.
I snuck back out to the kitchen and started to make breakfast. A half hour later, I loaded a tray with pancakes, fruit, bacon, and coffee, and headed back to the bedroom. Opening the door, I saw that Maya was just starting to wake up.
"Buongiorno, bella," I said softly as I joined her in bed, placing the tray between us.
She sat up, pushed her hair back out of her face and smiled down at the tray then up at me.
"What's all this?" she asked before placing a kiss on my lips.
"We haven't had much time just the two of us lately, so I wanted to do something special."
She picked up her cappuccino and took a long sip. "Well this is very special my love. Thank you."
We sat in bed enjoying our breakfast, for a bit before I moved the tray to the floor.
"What are you doing?" Maya asked with a laugh.
I said nothing, but picked up a strawberry and placed it between my teeth. Looking back at her, I shrugged tauntingly and leaned over. She took the strawberry with a kiss as I wrapped my arms around her. I placed a kiss on her cheek, then her neck, then her chest.
"Still not sure what I'm doing?" I smirked as I worked my way down her body.
.................................................
Around noon, we were still in bed. I sat between Maya's legs, both of us still naked, sweat glistening in the sun streaming in through the blinds. I was leaning against her chest and we had gone back to feeding each other berries and pancakes. It was perfect... until my pager went off.
"Ahh, cazzo! Proprio adesso?!" I muttered. Did they really have to page me right now? I thought to myself.
I apologized to Maya before quickly showering and running off to the hospital.
Adelina's POV
I walked out of school to see Maya in the car line. I was surprised; I thought Carina was going to pick me up.
"Carina got paged into the hospital for an emergency with one of her patients. She won't be back until later tonight," Maya explained as I got in the car.
I nodded. "Oh, okay. Thanks for picking me up."
"Of course," she smiled as she handed me the aux. "Want to DJ?"
I smiled back and put on some of my favorite music, relieved that she didn't ask me about my day. She started driving and I zoned out, looking out the window. We didn't chat, we just listened to Taylor Swift, until I realized we weren't going the way we usually did back to the apartment.
"Wait, where are we going?" I asked, looking over at Maya.
"We're going for a run," she declared as if it should've been obvious.
"But I'm not dressed for that," I said, motioning up and down my body at the skirt and flats I was wearing.
Maya laughed a little. "Don't worry, I brought your sneakers and a change of clothes."
I didn't really feel like running, but again, I could tell she was trying to be nice so I accepted my defeat. Hopefully I could claim I was tired from school after a mile or two and we could head home. When we got to the park, I reluctantly changed out of my school clothes and jogged behind Maya as she started down a trail.
A half mile in, I was still lagging behind, and felt like I was just counting my steps.
"Oh come on," Maya teased looking back at me. "Did you really lose that much speed this quickly?"
I rolled my eyes, but her comment did make me dig in harder. She smiled when I caught up to her. I kept pace for another mile or so and was starting to actually feel better. My head cleared, or at least mostly, for the first time in almost two weeks and I was only focused on my breath. Until Maya's voice pulled me back to reality.
"You ready to race?" she asked, smirking at me.
"Born ready," I joked. We chased each other through the park for another mile or so. I was surprised to hear myself giggle as she rushed past me and I pushed to catch up. Maybe I should listen to Maya more often, I thought. She knew exactly what I needed.
