Fear, storms, panic attacks

———————————————————————————

A harsh light flickered into a dark, and seemingly empty room, illuminating the walls before it returned to its dark state. The sound of falling rain was muffled as it crashed against the windows continuously, occasionally followed by the loud clap of thunder.

Huddled under a star filled blanket, Kaito trembled in absolute fear. He was scared of many things, but storms were a big one. Especially when he slipped into his headspace.

Brushing his purple locks from his face, slightly grabbing onto them, well, trying to hold onto something to make an attempt at calming himself, Kaito could feel he was panicking. The boy's heart raced in his chest to the point of pain, and he could feel his chest tightening to where he couldn't breathe. Not to mention the fact that he couldn't stop shaking.

Kaito was only able to let out pathetic sobs as he further curled himself into the ball, strewn on the cold wooden floors. The only sounds that could leave his mouth were wails.

Meanwhile, Shuichi lay by the window in his room, cozy with a cup of coffee and a good novel he had been reading. The detective loved reading, easily getting immersed in his books. After closing it with a happy sigh, the blue-haired boy looked up towards the rain-soaked window.

"Hm, it's storming." He could only mumble to himself with a slight smile appearing on his lips.
"How nice..."

As another flicker of lightning followed by a crashing of thunder started, the cozy boy's smile turned into an expression of worry.
"...shit."

Shuichi sprung up, bolting to his door, and opening it, cursing to himself as he made his way to Kaito's room. It seemed as if it had dawned on him now that Kaito was probably terrified.

Kaito froze up more as he heard the door open harshly, only letting out a few more pathetic cries and mumbles.
"Dada..." he called out between sobs, only curling himself up more.

"I'm sorry!" Shuichi apologized quickly as he followed the sounds of Kaito crying, sitting down before gently pulling the little astronaut into his lap.

Kaito only cried harder as Shuichi entered, burying his face into his caregiver's chest. He longed for some cuddles and quiet time, and could feel himself regressing further and further.

"It's gonna be alright, bubba." Shuichi whispered, rubbing Kaito's back soothingly. He could feel the trembling, and noticed how regressed his baby boy seemed, which only made him feel worse.

"Don't focus on what's happening outside okay? Okay baby? Listen to my voice."

"O-okay.." Whined a small voice with a few sniffles.

"Five things you can see?"

"Y-you..and my blanky.."

"Yeah? What else?"

Kaito sniffled a bit, hugging his blanket closer to him as his gaze shifted around the room. He glanced up before continuing.

"The glow stars on the ceiling, the posters on the wall...a-and..my stuffies.."

"You're doing so good, what about four things you can feel?" Shuichi asked, hugging Kaito tighter.

"Dada's hugs.." Kaito rubbed his eyes, the tears had stopped coming from his eyes by this point, and he was visibly more calm.
"Tears...and uhm..my face.." Kaito tried to stop trembling as he looked down. "Big clothes.."

"Oh?" Shuichi tilted his head. "Do you want to be changed into smaller clothes? How little are you feeling?" Shuichi asked as he got up, gently helping Kaito up as well, moving his little to the bed.

"Uh huh.." Kaito murmured as he nodded, bringing his knees to his chest.

"Alright baby...three things you can hear?" Shuichi asked as he walked across the room, and opened a drawer.

In the room stood a tall closet, it was made out of dark wood, and had stickers on it- most of which were either spaced themed or from a kids cartoon. This was Kaito's for when he felt small, each drawer representing a different age of his headspace. Currently, Shuichi was digging through the drawer representing the youngest age, knowing Kaito was going into a babyspace.

"Uhm..your voice, the drawer..a-and the r-rain.." Kaito sniffled a bit, turning his attention to Shuichi, watching as the dark-haired detective brought back some items for him.

"Mhm. Two things you can smell?" Shuichi asked as he began to change his little. Upon opening the bottle of baby powder, a white cloud flew up into the air, causing Kaito to giggle a bit.

"Baby powder. And.." he sniffed the air, giving a confused look. "Daddy...how much coffee have you had...?"

"Ah- uhm..lots." Shuichi gave a nervous look as he finished taping the diaper, giving it a few pats before getting Kaito into some warm pajamas, which were footed, and space themed. It had little stars and rocket ships all over.

"Paci!" Kaito made grabby hands towards Shuichi, seeming to be further and further regressing now that he was more comfortable. Shuichi took note that Kaito had stopped trembling by this point.

"Alright alright." Shuichi smiled, going back to the drawer to fetch a pacifier. "Now, something you can taste?" He asked his baby.

"Hmm..." Kaito thought, giving a soft shrug.
"Dunnos!"

"Fair enough...here." Shuichi slipped the purple pacifier into his little's mouth, brushing aside his dark hair, and giving him a kiss on the forehead.

"There, are we better now?" Shuichi asked with a warm smile.

"Mhm! A wot bwettew!" Kaito babbled through his pacifier.

"You're adorable my baby boy!" Shuichi cooed, hugging Kaito tight and snuggling him for a moment. "I'm always going to be here to protect you, no more scary storms."

"Thwank chu daddy!" The astronaut hugged back, resting his head against Shuichi's chest, listening to the detective's heart beating. He was definitely calm now, and seemed to be getting sleepy. Kaito yawned softly, snuggling up in Shuichi's arms more, making himself comfortable.

"Aww are you sleepy?" Shuichi's asked as he gently ran his finger's through Kaito's hair.

"Vewy sweepy.." the little yawned.

"Let's take a nap then; we can play when you wake up. Does that sound good?"

"Uh huh..I wuv you dada"

"I love you too, my little star."
