IN WHICH frederick and will's friendship continue on growing, and frederick struggles to understand the line between "things that friends do" and "things that friends don't do."

"frederick, no. let me go—" will tries to stop himself from being dragged away from his house. he knew that whatever the taller boy did, it was for their own good. he knew that, yet that didn't stop him from being upset.

the other boy ignores him and continues on trying to get them back to fred's shed.  the guilt he felt was eating him alive, and he felt as if he was going to collapse in a few seconds — using a lot of energy for his abilities was one thing, but his emotions plays a huge part at controlling his abilities. and to say he was a mess at that point was an understatement.

he hadn't meant to use that much power, he didn't mean to destroy the phone, he didn't mean to make will upset.

would it have been better had he let will talk to his mom longer? maybe he could've forced himself to hold any incoming demogorgons just so will could talk to his mom— but the sphere of energy he let out was something he didn't mean to do. there was a reason why he liked using his baseball bat; it was easier to control his power that way.

just channel the energy into the bat, that way, not all of your energy is used and you get to live to see another day. he remembers telling himself.

sure, he had a lot of years in the vale of shadows to practice his powers. and he did. he knew he was capable of more. he was capable of a lot of things. things he both understood and didn't quite get.

he liked to think that the things he could do had a level — channeling his energy into things and keeping an eye out for the area around him was the lowest level. he could do it easily, and it wouldn't take much from him. throwing that energy sphere was probably somewhere in the medium level, which practically meant he could use it once or twice, and still move freely. though, he'd be super exhausted, just as he was at the moment.

on another occasion that he uses all three of the mentioned abilities — he'd get a massive headache and a nosebleed.

maybe he should've pushed himself more. maybe will wouldn't have been angry at him, and they would've walked hand in hand back to his shed.

"frederick, let me go!" the shorter boy almost yells and tugs his wrist away from the other boy. said wanderer turns around and looks down on him, exhaustion and guilt evident on his face. it almost made will take back his words and ask if he was feeling fine, but he was also upset. and instead of trying to console each other, will feels angry.

"i know you're angry, will—" frederick inhales and tries to not make the atmosphere even more worse. "but let's not yell in the middle of the streets and attract any more demogorgons, okay?" he mutters.
