Kaylee hopped off the car and Carl held on to my arm in case I tried to runaway. I have to admit, the thought did come to mind, but I'm a slow runner so I knew that was not going to end well.
We walked inside the convenience store and there was not a single person inside besides the cashier. He stared at us as we made our way to end of store and to the bathroom.
"I'll wait out here, hurry up." Carl said as he opened the door for me and leaned against the wall between the women and men bathroom doors.
I walked inside and locked the door behind me. It smelled so bad like it hadn't been cleaned in ages. I tried to hold in my gags as I tried to come up with a plan to get out of here, but unfortunately there was only a small window that was high up near the ceiling. I plugged my nose and hopped on top of the toliet seat to see if I could open it.
"Katerina!" Carl shouted. His shout startled me and I almost lost my balance and slipped. I regained my balance and was the same height as the window, but saw there was no way to actually open it.
I let out an angry sigh as I got off the toliet seat and washed my hands.
"Kater-" He was interrupted with the door swinging open. "Someone took forever, go pick out a few snacks."
I nodded and headed down the chip aisle. Carl walked away and found Kaylee picking out candies.
I tried to come up with some plan, but I couldn't think of anything. I sighed as I grabbed a bag of dorritos and a bottle of coca cola.
"Kat hurry up I'm at the cash register." Carl moaned.
I trudged over to the register and placed my items on the counter. I glanced to the temperature sign that was hanging on the wall behind the cashier. It read, 'Pheonix, 75°'. I didn't think anything of it, but that it felt a little hotter than 75 degrees. Until it hit me where exactly we were.
"WE'RE IN ARIZONA?!" I shouted. The cash register looked at me weirdly and Carl looked annoyed.
"Y-yes we are sweetie, don't you remember we are on a roadtrip across country?" Carl smiled at the man. He didn't want to seem suspicious.
I started to panic, what if I'm never found and I'm stuck with Carl. He grabbed the things and the change. He held ontop my arm and we quickly ran out of the convenience store.
He opened the back door and pushed me inside. He attached the other side of the handcuff back on. He made his way to the driver's seat and drove away.
"What the fuck was that?!" He said.
"A simple question." I retorted.
"Well you need to stop with simple questions got it? You could have gotten us caught." He said.
Kaylee got her things out of the bag and handed over my things.
"Gee thanks." I opened the bag of chips and started to munch on them.
I leaned my head on the window and took a nap.
-dream/flashback-
"Best thirteenth birthday ever!" Olivia squealed as my mom pulled up at the arena.
"Okay Olivia I'll pick you three up right at this spot okay? Take care of your sister." My mom said.
"Okay thanks mom!" Olivia cheered.
"Have fun!" She shouted after us as we started walking in.
"I'm so excited! I hope she sings My Love is Like a Star!" Anna, Olivia's best friend beamed.
