"Okay! I have wanted to move in with you before we went off to uni. Now that we have our own place together, I have been thinking about what's next for us. What's our next step. I then reminded myself that nothing in this world will bring us closer together. We are already stronger than we have ever been. But one thing is for certain, I want us to be a family. At the moment, I'm not ready to have a child but I want us to be parents to a puppy. When you were out buying furniture for the flat, I was looking at puppies. I found a gorgeous golden retriever. Her name is Lola and she's ready for adoption so...I got her collar pre made"
There's a moment of silence before Nick is flushing with tears. He instantly goes in for a hug. I wrap my arms around him and I feel his heart beating faster than usual. I also feel him grasp onto my jumper, almost like he never wants to let go, which is usually how we feel every time we hug.
We hug for a long time, but it's needed.
Since me and Nick have moved into our flat, we haven't spent a lot of time together. We haven't been able to have those lovely moments we said we were going to have. This is exactly what we have missed. These past few days have been chaotic. I'm glad that we can finally share a moment like this.
After Nick stop crying, he lets go. He wipes a final tear from his cheek and holds my hand.
"This is all I ever wanted!" He says. Trying to remain calm. I can tell that although he is filled with emotion, he's also very happy and excited. I'm glad.
"What do you mean?"
"This. Us. To be a family. Although I will say that I agree, having a child of our own sounds like a huge responsibility. But a puppy, Char, that's just as good. We are going to be...a family!"
He pauses for a moment, processing the thought that's it's happening and then jumps in for another hug. At this moment, we are both crying. Happily.
We are beginning a new journey. One which is much more happier than any other journey we have been on.
