"Are you even listening?" Rose asked, shaking Micah's arm. She snored, sitting up straight and running a hand through her hair. "Yeah, yeah. Something about the school paper," she said sleepily.

Rose shook her head in disbelief and looked around the room. How can Micah fall asleep with such noise? The two were sitting in the cafeteria and all the other students were alive and deep into conversation, obviously refreshed after a good night's sleep except Micah, who couldn't close her eyes for a second. Micah said it was all the sugar and excitement that kept them awake, but she knew it was a lie. That stupid note inside the missing kids file just didn't make sense and pissed Micah off so much.

"As I was saying, It's so cool that we have our own newspaper at school. Now there's something to read during breakfast," Rose said, eyes glued to the paper. "Says here a detective is coming to investigate the case of the missing boy." She closed the newspaper. "Well, at least now we don't need to worry about that any longer. It's in good hands."

Micah said nothing, her head in the palm of her hand and eyes staring at something in the distance.

"M?"

"Hey, do you think Braidon wrote that note?" She finally said, eyes locked on him sitting with his friends.

Rose clenched her fists to prevent her from strangling Micah but she basically signed up for this when becoming friends so she quietly took a deep breath and through clenched teeth said, "Maybe, but what makes you think so?" She thought after she had bothered Micah about the boy it's now their turn to take control of the conversation.

"I mean who else has been messing with us and knows that we get involved in this mystery sh..." Her voice trailed off as a teacher passed by. "...shenanigans. And besides, it's Braidon we're talking about. He's been quiet but most likely planning something."

"So what are you going to do?" Rose muffled through her stuffed mouth full of muffin.

Micah shrugged. "I don't know, confront him?" She winced at the terrible suggestion. "Talk?"

"Uh-huh. Last time you tried to resolve something it landed you a a two day suspension and an almost broken back." Rose's eyes narrowed.

Micah squirmed in her seat knowing Rose was right. After the fight with Braidon her back ached for weeks and still hurts when Micah would do too much physical activity she remembered him slamming her into the wall repeatedly.

"Okay I promise I'll be calm this time. Trust me," Micah assured Rose.

'Besides, I've already mended some cracks,' they said to themself, knowing Rose wouldn't understand.

'Why am I sleepwalking? Damn calm down Micah,' she thought as she and Rose made their way down the hallway on their way to find Braidon.

Micah noticed that every now and then Rose has to jog up next to her, and then realised her feet have been working non-stop. Feeling a sudden wave of tiredness come over them, they finally slowed down.

The truth was that Micah was scared of the promise she made with Rose. Over time they learned to manage their anger but Braidon was a different case. After years of damage she just might burst and he snaps in the worst case scenario.

As the two rounded the corner, with Micah's hands in her pockets, clutching the material of her pants, Braidon did a quick handshake with Scout and Callum and the three went their separate ways. Seeing Micah approach, his eyes flashed with panic as he jerked his head back and cursed when he knew he was alone during this one.

Micah's lips almost immediately tightened, trying to convince herself to keep walking and not saying anything but her body was determined. Micah and Braidon stopped in front of each other with Rose beside Micah.
