8 years ago:

"Do I really have to go to the dance with Francesca Omma?" I looked up at my mom. She's making me go to the Spring Dance with Franny. Because nobody else wants to be her date.

"Yes, Nicolai." She ran her fingers through my hair that stopped at my shoulders. "Now be a gentleman and give her this." She hands me a rose corsage. I left the bathroom and went into Franny's room. She was sitting down at her white vanity while her mother was putting a rose in her hair.

Woahh. She looks like a princess.

She finally realized I was standing in her doorway and went towards me. "You look very pretty Nico," she said sweetly with her hands behind her back.

Pretty? I thought that was for girls.

Francesca looked beautiful. Her long wavy hair and dark red dress.

I nervously picked up her arm and put on the corsage. Her eyes lit up when she saw it. "Thank you."

"Now it's time for pictures." Francesca's mom, Evangeline, picked up her camera off the dresser. Francesca stood next to me and held my sweaty hand. "Say cheese." Evangeline cheerfully said.

"Cheese."

                                 𒊹︎

She called me pretty boy.

Of course, she just had to say that shit.

I just spent the last two months trying to be away from her, I didn't even wanna look at her but when I saw she wasn't eating it pissed me off. On top of that, I fed her.

I know about her insecurities and why she chooses not to eat, she just doesn't think I know she doesn't like her body. I know she puts on a front in front of everyone. What I don't know is why, In my eyes, she has the most beautiful body ever.

Growing up with Franny I learned a lot about her over the years. I know she loves the color pink but won't admit it, her eyes change from light brown to hazel in the light, and she chews the inside of her cheek when she's nervous.

I feel like I know everything about her, she's my best friend. I just hated being friends with her so much.

I've had a crush on her since 8th grade. 8th grade is when everyone had a crush on her. But nobody knows her as I know her, she'll also never see me that way and I have to accept that.

"So where have you actually been these past two months Nicolai?" My dad asked while punching the punching bag I was holding. "I crashed with a friend in New Jersey."

"And why did you you leave?" He hits the bag again. "I just needed to clear my mind." which technically wasn't a lie except I needed to clear my mind from Francesca.

"I have someone I want you to meet." Here he goes with his 20th attempt to set me up with a girl. "Her name is Erica and she's going to be a doctor. She's smart and dedicated, nothing like Francesca."

"What does this have to do with Franny?" I let go of the punching bag.

"What do I have to do with what?" My father and I turned our heads to face the front door of the gym.

Speak of the devil. Francesca was standing there in black tights, an oversized white t-shirt, with black converse.

"My father asked for you, Jared."Francesca looked between my father and me cautiously. He simply nodded his head and walked out of the door.

"Hi, Nico." She smiled at me happily.

I wish I could just tell her how I feel. Then maybe I wouldn't be so conflicted with her. Being in the same room as her just hurt too much so instead of saying Hi back to her, I left her in the room standing there.
