This takes place 6 years before the events of RWBY.
Plot:
Young Ren Tennyson, his best friends Devlin and Hope and his Grandpa Max decided to take a road trip around the whole world of Remnant, however they'll encounter aliens, bad guys and Grimms...
The Rust Bucket was in a middle of traffic. Ren and Devlin, were fiddling the watch, now know that the time limit is 15 minutes (10 minutes of usage, 5 minutes of recharge), next examining the alien icons guessing what are the powers of the rest.
Devlin: We know HeatBlast, he can summon fire and absorb it.
Ren: Got that right, how about this guy?
Ren pointed at an alien with headphones.
Devlin: Maybe we could-
Grandpa Max: No. You're only using it for emergencies only.
Ren: But Grandpa! How are we gonna use it for emergencies if we don't know what the abilities are?
Grandpa Max: Look, as much as I want to know what are the rest are, but think about it you two: if some random group of civilians saw you in alien form, Atlas will hunt you down and try to make you a weapon.
Devlin: Bold of you to assume Atlas will be the one to do it.
Grandpa Max: Sigh Trust me champ, if it comes to technology/out of this world, Atlas is the department to those two.
Meanwhile at Forever Fall:
A pack of drones (let's say about 15) where exploring the area where the pod landed .

Vilgax: Found.....anything....yet?
???: N-no, my l-lord.
Vilgax: What?
???: It seems someone took the Omnitrix before us.
If Vilgax has enough energy he could scream, but he couldn't. Instead he sighed and ordered the alien.
Vilgax: Send...7 of the drones.....to find it.
???: Yes, Lord Vilgax.
As Vilgax ordered, 7 of the drones stayed and started to search in Remnant, as for the remaining 8 came back to Vilgax.
