< Isabel >
"Professor..."
"Yes Isabel, I know what you're thinking, and you are correct in your suspicions. The deatheaters that Elora was given to was Charles and Esme Montgomery."
I dropped the letter to the ground. My eyes widened in shock.
"No. No." I abruptly stood from my chair as tears formed in my eyes.
"Yes, Isabel," McGonagall stood up too, "you are the baby. You are Elora Rose LaBelle."
I shook my head. I can't be. There's no way they've kept that from me for 18 years.
"H..How do you know? Y...You can't be s...sure!" I stuttered.
"Isabel, dear." McGonagall placed her hands on my shoulders. "Dumbledore and I looked for you as soon as we heard of the LaBelle's deaths. But it was very difficult because we didn't know who you'd been entrusted to. The Order stormed the Riddle estate, which was where your parents were held captive, and we found a collection of letters behind a loose brick in the basement. They were letters, Isabel, to you from your mother. She hoped that one day Voldemort would be killed, and those letters would find their way to you. In them, she mentioned that the Montgomerys were your adoptive parents."
She handed me the black box and I opened it to see a stack of folded parchment – the letters.
"Why would you keep this from me?" I could feel the anger bubbling inside me. "I had a right to know of my true parentage! Do you know how much pain I had to go through all these years?! Professor, I didn't want to be here anymore! I hated this world, the people around me...me!"
"Look, Isabel, I know this is hard for you. But this was kept from you for your own protection," she said, "if we had told you earlier and Voldemort or the Montgomerys found out that you knew, they would've killed you."
"Why didn't they kill me? They loved to express their hatred towards me."
"Voldemort wanted young deatheaters who could step up when older ones died. He wanted eyes and ears all around and in Hogwarts which is why he used you and our Mr Malfoy. If he knew that your loyalty to him had become divided because of your knowledge of your true parentage, he would've killed you."
"That's why I was in the hospital wing, isn't it? The panic attack was more extensive than it should've been because of the curse."
"Yes, dear. Albus and I researched this curse very deeply and only have one way to break it. A confractus, a strand of ancient magic, must be performed by a very highly trained cursebreaker. However, what differs with this specific blood curse is that it will involve the blood of true love intertwined."
"What?"
"Exactly what I said, Isabel," she said, "the curse was inflicted onto you with pure hatred, so love is what breaks it."
"This is just so much..." I sat back down on the chair and buried my face in my hands.
McGonagall handed me a glass of water which I gladly took a sip of.
