We ran. And I was surprised I didn't stop and hack because let's face it, I'm not a big physical activity girl. Correction: I'm not a physical activity girl at all. But what kept me going was feeling the wind brush my hair and the warm hand gripping on to mine. And a little bit of it might've been the dork next to me yelling and laughing into the fresh cool morning in New York City. We slowed down to a walk.
"So where are we going Ms. Not un-fun?" Stiles asked as he raised an eyebrow.
"Why would I tell you?"
"What?"
"I'm showing you that I'm fun. And there's no such thing more fun then surprise" I put my hands up in jazz hands and pulled him into a parking lot nearby. I led him to my red Prius and I quietly giggle how clumsily he lumbers in. As we are driving, he starts rummaging around.
"Stiles what the hell are you doing?" I saw not taking my eyes off the road.
"Looking for something."
"Stiles what are you-" stiles pulled up a necklace with a blue crystal glimmering in the sunlight. My eyes widen.
"Stiles put. That. Down" I plead.
"Is this what I think it is?" He smiles and starts poking me.
"Stiles stop. Ok. I didn't even know it was-"
"So all these years I thought you haven't even thought about it twice. And here it is. Right in front of my eyes" he started examining it like it was a precious jewel that was placed in his possession.
I shook my head and laughed."Ok. I might've just might've kept it. But you're right. I haven't even thought about it in like.... 5,000,000 years."
"Right." He winks at me. "So... When were you going to tell me you still have a crush on me?"
I almost choke up on my own spit."What are you talking about?!" I question him.
"Well. I gave this to you 8 years ago. 8 as in the number of legs octopus have!"
I facepalm and sigh. "Proceed""You've kept it all these years. You still value the thing I said to you. And you know what I said you right before I gave this to you?" He smirked.
"You know, that day was a blur. So much commotion, I don't really remember-"
"Lydia. Come on"
I drew in a deep breath. The sad thing was I remembered. I remembered so crystal clear that I could almost close my eyes and imagine I was there right now. But I didn't want to tell him. I didn't want to bring back memories from the past. That's why I moved to New York. To get rid of all the supernatural craziness. I wanted to live a normal life. As a normal girl
"You said, that as long as I had this, you would always be with me. That if I carried it around, it showed that the once lifeless exterior I had, cracked. And it showed that anyone or anything can change. As perfect as you thought it was, there's something better out there for you if you just open your eyes. That necklace symbolized our friendship. Emphasis on friendship." I glared at him. "It showed that we are inseparable and that our friendship can't be broken."
He smiled and bit his lip.
"I'm just glad that you didn't say were. You said are. Cause we still are.... Friends. Just friends. Nothing else. Just..." He paused looking at me as if peering into my soul trying to wake up a sleeping dragon. Trying to make me feel something. "Friends." he looked at me with a serious expression making the pace of my breath quicken a little bit.
"Yeah. Just friends." I said. I fiddled with the radio as I whispered so quietly no soul would be able to hear me. "Just friends" He looked in front of us and suddenly got a horrified look on his face.
"LYDIA!" He screamed.
