04. LIKE NO OTHER

"WE'RE HERE." STEVE ANNOUNCED, unlocking his car for everyone to step out. destiny felt herself shudder with anxiousness when she looked up at the worn down house in front of them. she still couldn't believe it, she didn't want to; the mythical shit that dustin, nancy wheeler, max, and everyone informed her of, even though destiny saw max being possessed and ten feet in the air. destiny's nerves grew stronger when she realized that patrick, jason, and the rest of the team were quite literally on a witch hunt.

"i still can't believe you made me lay in the trunk." dustin muttered as he stretched his arms. "couldn't we have just had destiny lay there? since she's new and all."

"hey, ladies get priority seats." robin insisted. "they did that in the titanic."

"a bmw is not equivalent to a worldwide tragedy." dustin argued.

"my baby is the equivalent to the titantic." steve countered. dustin grimaced at steve's pet name for his car, but let the matter go in the end. the seven of them carefully moved to the front door, where it had been completely boarded up. "okay, that's not creepy." steve took out a hammer from his bag and stepped forward, taking out the rusty nails embedded into the rotting wood plank. nancy followed in pursuit and helped the older boy.

"what exactly are we supposed to look for in this shithole?" lucas asked.

"we're not sure," nancy replied without looking back. "we just know this house is important to vecna."

"because max saw it in vecna's red soup mind world?" steve proposed.

"basically."

"great." steve dragged out as he continued to get rid of the nails.

"maybe it holds a clue to where vecna is. and why he's back." dustin stated. "or why he killed the creels."

"and how to stop him before he gets to max again." destiny continued dustin's reasoning. "since he's picky with his victims, per se."

"i don't think you used 'per se' correctly." dustin stated. destiny rolled her eyes.

"you get my point."

"we don't think he's in here, do we?" lucas questioned hesitantly.

"guess we'll find out." max finished.

"ready?" said steve, waiting for the rest of the group to step back. him and nancy released the now loose plank of wood, revealing a dusty door with stained glass adoring the center. steve attempted to open the door, but it had been locked. "should i knock to see if anyone's home?"

"no need." robin called out, holding up an old brick for the rest to see. "i found a key." without warning, robin threw the brick with all her strength at the door, shattering the window in the process. steve stuck his hand into the now broken window and unlocked the door, opening it and motioning everyone to come in.

"home, sweet home." destiny whispered. lucas went to turn on a nearby lamp. to no avail, it didn't turn on.

"looks like someone forgot to pay their electric bill." lucas said aloud, earning a questionable look from destiny. "what? it was funny." dustin rolled his eyes and pulled out a flashlight, signaling everyone else to retrieve theirs.
