03. MOMENTS IN TIME

"SO, WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO tag along?" andy questioned from the passenger seat. the atmosphere in the car was insanely awkward and suffocating, at least to destiny at least. andy kept trying to make small talk, while patrick avoided any eye contact with her.

"i didn't decide to, jason made me go because i've talked to sinclair like twice?" destiny grumbled as she watched jason talk to lucas's little sister from the car window. "look, i don't get why you guys are trying to hunt down a murderer that apparently sacrificed chrissy to the devil. don't you guys think it's safer to leave everything to the police?"

"jason's our boy," andy shrugged. "and besides, don't you want justice for chrissy?"

"when did i say i didn't?" scoffed destiny. "the whole 'satanic ritual' shit is a load of crap, and i want to avenge her in a civil matter, not going up to people's houses and interrogating them. i'm pretty sure they can sue us for that?"

"jeez, you're a buzzkill." andy muttered to himself. "are you against this because you like sinclair? y'know he lied to us right?"

"andy!" patrick and destiny snapped at the upperclassman. destiny turned to look at patrick weirdly, who was quick to avert his eyes back to andy.

"i don't know him enough to even say i like him in general." destiny pointed out. "shit man, he's pretty cool for a freshman i guess, and i just think you don't have to go terrorize his home because he gave you the wrong clue."

"that's exactly why we're 'terrorizing' him, or however you wanna word it. we're just good samaritans trying to avenge the love of jason's life." andy insisted. destiny huffed and threw herself back against the car seat. she turned to look at patrick.

"you seriously doing this, mckinney?" destiny questioned the older boy beside her.

"c'mon destiny, i'm just tryna help jason out. he's the homeboy." patrick replied hesitantly. jason and patrick were good friends, but the only reason why he agreed to helping jason find eddie was to impress destiny with courageous heroism, but it definitely did not turn out the way patrick wanted things to go. "police aren't doing jack about it anyway."

"can't you guys be normal ass people and just follow whatever law enforcement puts their foot down on, jesus." the trio in the car watched jason get into the driver's seat with a grimace on his face. "i'm walking to yvonne's, i can't be apart of this."

"i'm not letting you walk alone des, there's a killer on the loose." jason stated. "it's not safe out there."

"well, running around to go hunt for one isn't either." destiny argued. "what if you guys get hurt?" jason was about to continue before stopping for a moment, then spoke again.

"at least let me drive you to her house."

"fine." the car ride to yvonne's was quiet, the tension along with the awkward atmosphere was more suffocating than ever. luckily, the car finally halted in front of the familiar beige house and the spring breeze outside was so refreshing. destiny looked back at the three upperclassmen in the car before saying, "please don't do anything fucking stupid."

"promise." jason said quietly with a small smile. "sorry for dragging you into this, des." before destiny could respond, the black car had already sped off, leaving destiny at the doorstop of yvonne's house. destiny smacked her forehead in disappointment; yvonne left for florida today. letting out a loud groan, she began heading home. not long after, destiny saw lucs sinclair nervously leaning against a red bmw parked by the cemetery, cautiously looking around for something.
