It was a regular day in Hampshire. Missing kittens, homeless people stealing cigarettes, dirty cops being arrested, primary school kids vaping, drinking cold coffee on a Monday afternoon. At this point, I'm too sure that every job is better than mine. I'm being serious. Imagine having to deal with cases that a child could solve. My most interesting case was who ate my slice of the pizza, and it still remains a mystery to this day. Captain was being interviewed by the newspaper about what it's like to have the most oldest police station. I'll sum it down it for you; absolutely boring.
The captain was a man -and still is- who has fought countless news reporters. They still interview him but nowadays they learn when to stop. Captain makes a face when he's angry but doesn't want to show it. He thins his eyelids, lifts up his left eyebrow and gives a grin that could scare off thousands of kids. When he does that face, just stop talking. The captain's walls were made from glass because of his favourite detective movie: 'Cloak'. A movie where the cloaked killer murders inside his own police station and it ends up being the warden. So thanks to the clear office, we could all tell that he wanted to throw the journalist out the window of the 16th floor.
Captain stood up and pointed at the door with a more stern face on; assuming he's had enough.
"RED! Missing Kitten down on Naveed Avenue!" Captain yelled from his door after shoving the journalist out of his office.
"On it, Captain..." I groaned.
For those wondering why he said the name of a colour and not my name -he did say my name. My name's Xavier Red, the newest detective to Hampshire station. I was transferred because of my last 'incident' in London; I'll talk it about it later. The captain returned to his office to answer his telephone. After closing my files, I put on my coat, picked up my note pad, grabbed my car keys and sluggishly walked to the elevator. I was planning to stop by my friend's house to pick up one of my deliveries. But, as you've probably already guessed, I was too tired to even think of driving to his house. You would usually expect the elevator to not be working like the sink and heater 'cause of how long it's been here. Somehow, it's the only thing working in this depressing station. Passing multiple floors, I eventually made it to the best place in the world. The sign out area! Despite the fact I didn't even have a happy face on."Hey, Xavier! Heading out for the missing kitten?" An upbeat receptionist waved at me.
"Life is meaningless Robert..." I replied.
The great doors opened as the sensor's light turned green. The world's light was shining before my eyes; the sun hugged the city's skyscrapers, the clouds circled around the building and the roads beeped as the pole lights glowed red, allowing protesters to hold their signs while crossing. People holding brown bags strolled as if they didn't have a care in the world. I was officially a hostage of this futile world. Don't become an police officer kids.
