tara was sitting up against the headboard of her bed, playing a game on her phone, while amber slept between her legs, amber's head resting on tara's stomach, and her arms barely around tara's waist.

amber was always the more clingy one, even if she got all shy about showing affection in public, and heavily denied any accusations of being clingy, she was.

occasionally, tara just liked to watch amber in her sleep- yes, she knows it sounds creepy- and run her fingers through the girl's hair. she liked how peaceful amber looked while she slept, and sometimes, she even had a light smile on her face.

it was cute. in fact, tara had a lot of photos of it happening.

the landline on tara's nightstand, began ringing, making her jump, and amber to whine at the sudden disturbance. she looked at the number and didn't recognize it, so she hit the end call button.

the same number called again, so she huffed and answered it. "hello?"

"hello. is- is christina there?" a creepy voice came through the phone, and tara furrowed her eyebrows, not only at the weird voice she didn't recognize, but the mention of her mother.

"no..." tara answered skeptically. "but may i take a message?"

"i...yes um...sorry... i'm a friend of hers from group. i- oh shit!"

tara laughed. "from her shit?"

"look, just uh, tell her i'm from group; i'm charlie, she's got my number." they said.

"oh, she goes to group?" tara asked, ever the curious person she was, she wanted to know who this person was.

"i shouldn't of-" they sighed, "just tell her i'm from group that charlie called."

"and i will do exactly that, charlie. once you tell me what groups were talking about." tara turned off her game, and moved her free hand to amber's hair; amber was beginning to stir from the noise. she was never a heavy sleeper.

"who is it?" amber groggily mumbled, looking up at tara with her brown doe eyes.

tara put her hand over the speaker and whispered, "i think it's my mom's new boyfriend."

amber raised her eyebrows, before laying her head back on tara's stomach, sighing.

the subject changes to tara's mom, and what she has said about her in this "group" before it changed again to movies... scary movies.

"...what's your favorite scary movie?" they asked her.

"uh..." tara thought for a moment. "the babadook. it's an amazing meditation on motherhood and grief."

the person on the line laughs at her, saying it's "fancy pants," and tara explains to them that it's elevated horror. the person says a simple "huh," before asking her about the stab franchise. more importantly, if she has ever seen it.

at this point, amber is getting bored- since she can't fall back asleep- and looks up at tara. she was already tired of the conversation tara was having- she could hear everything the person said on the phone- and she was even more tired that tara wasn't paying attention to her.

"tara." amber whispered. "just hang up."

tara smiled at her but shook her head.

amber huffed.

amber wasn't exactly paying attention to what the person was saying, but suddenly, tara had wide eyes, and was hanging up quickly.

"what happened?"
