Maddy's POV

One minute I was walking around the corner to school, the next, I stood frozen in front of the burning building, hearing the blood curdling screams of the town's children, my friends, my family, the people that I could go to when anything was wrong, my home.

Big, bulky, monsters had infiltrated our town walls. Some were killing off kids that didn't get caught in the fire itself, some were eating the dead bodies of my friends, or of what used to be the bodies of my friends. All I could do was stand there and watch in horror as every passing day they'd take another part of our happy little town. Soon there was only my mother, father, little sister and I left.

After we fled to the next town over, we heard no news of the horrific genocide of our people that happened just a few days before. We were quick to find out why, and the truth haunts me to this day.  "No one had lived there for centuries," the old man across the old bar said.

"You people must be crazy, get out," He spoke in a calm voice, but you could see the veins popping out of his forehead. He motioned towards the old wooden door. My father sighed in sadness for the fifth time tonight. This was the fifth pub he'd been to ask the winning question over and over again, "Have you heard about the town beyond the waters?" and the answer was always a scream to the face and an invitation to get arrested. At least the man didn't yell this time.

Father decided we should go back to the little cottage we rented for the night and get a bit of rest to clear our heads. But what we weren't expecting was our uninvited guests. As we strolled up to the cabin, I could make out two male figures. One was tall and fair with long black hair and the other was a bit shorter with short, messy, red hair and tanned skin. They looked to be in their early twenties and were wondering around aimlessly.

As we got to our cabin door, they walked up and asked if they could stay the night, it was extremely cold and dark, so my parents were kind and considerate enough to offer them one of our two rooms in the small cabin.

Their names were Roger and Alan, and they were from a town in the north. Apparently, they were sent out to complete a quest for the person they work for but got lost and couldn't find their way back to the town.

Father made dinner while mother and sister excitedly bombarded the travelers with questions. I was a little weary of them but came to the conclusion, that they were of no harm to my family, not that they did anything for me to be suspicious that is.

We had dinner and when I was full, I needed to get a good night's rest. My sister and I, Kali shared a room together and she would not stop talking about the guests. It was a bit irritating to say the least, but I'm glad she was still herself after the incident.

When she had finally drifted off to sleep, I was feeling a bit thirsty, so I decided to get a drink of water. I placed the glass against my lips and took a sip of the clear liquid and turned to leave but caught something red and glowing out of the corner of my eye. It had the dark, deep red color of blood with a shimmer and glowing gleam to it. They were eyes of Roger staring back at me.

He stood tall, leaning against the kitchen wall, with a look of disturbance playing on his face. He waved me over and whispered into my ear,

"Get them out by twelve." and I stood frozen in confusion, as he walked back into the room he was sharing with my parents and Alan.

'Get them out by twelve,' I repeated under my breath, and replayed the mental image of his face in my head. I looked up at the clock across the room, it was eleven-forty. Shit. 'It may be a lie, right,' I thought with a small laugh. 'But why would he lie? he has nothing to lie about,' I decided to trust my gut and believe him.

It was now eleven-forty-five when I began shaking Kali and yelling at her to wake up. She jumped up and grabbed my arm, stopping me.

"What the hell?" she questioned with half opened eyelids.

"We have to go, now, let's go!" I pulled her off the bed and told her to put her shoes on.

I was relieved when she didn't ask questions and ran over to my parent's room, banging on the door.

Alan answered, I guess he was in on whatever was going on. He stepped out and grabbed Kali, holding her in his arms.

She let out a surprised gasp and held unto him.

Next it was Roger, who came out, dragging both mother and father along with him. It seems that they heard about whatever was going to happen. Roger picked me up and buried my face in his chest. It was like he was trying to hide me, but why?

I turned my head and took a peep at the clock on the kitchen wall, it was eleven-fifty-five.

"We have to go, now," Roger said. Alan shook his head and rushed my parents outside. We were heading for the hills, the ones that were said to be vampire territory.

If they were going there, then we were in deep, deep shit.
