Three hundred and forty years ago
Maddy's POV
All of a sudden, we were on the ground, the rough, brown, earth of the hills. That's when I felt to siring pain of the make-shift arrow that penetrated my back.
I tried to move, but a sharp pain shot through my body. So instead, I let my eyes roam. Both mother and father were lying face down in the dirt, arrows sticking out their backs. 'Oh shit, are they dead?' I thought, panicking.
Kali and Alan were nowhere to be found so my eyes gave up searching for them. I felt a presence looming over me and forced myself to look up. It was Roger. He asked me something, but I couldn't hear it for some reason. So, with a little habit I seemingly still have and will never get over, I responded with a painful, "Yes," and then everything went black.

I awoke with a sore neck and stiff body. I shuffled around, in an attempt to get comfortable, then slowly opened my eyes to let them adjust to the brightly lit room. I look to my right to find my sister lying on her arm, sleeping soundly. Her black hair covered a good portion of her face, but I'd know those thick Locs anywhere. I leaned over, straining to but made it eventually and poked her arm. She stirred and looked up at me with tired eyes. She was a light sleeper; the buzz of an insect could wake her. Kali stared at me for a few seconds before jumping up and engulfing me into a tight hug.
She pulled away and smiled at me brightly, her teeth shining in the morning sun. Running out of the room, she pulled a willing Roger in behind her and rambled to him excitedly. All he did was nod and silently agree with whatever she was saying. I look to the doorway to see Alan standing there, arms crossed and a small smile playing on his lips as he looked at my sister with warm eyes. it was almost a motherly one.

"Where are my parents?" I ask. Alan looked over at me and pointed to the room at the end of the hallway.
"They've been sleeping for the last two weeks but they'll wake up eventually," he said. I was about to ask another question when Roger interrupted me, "It just takes longer for adults to turn," he said.
'Turn?' I though. I looked up at him confused and Alan looked panicked. What was going on? He pulled Roger over to kitchen and whispered something to him.
"........He told me t...." I heard as I stood by the kitchen door, holding an ear to it. I backed away quickly as I heard foots steps coming towards the door. It swung open, and Alan grabbed Kali and ran into the room my parents were staying in. I looked up to see Roger stalking towards me. The only thing I could do was retract into the corner of the sofa and stare at him in fear.
"What are you going to do to me?" I ask, pulling my knees to my chest. He opened his mouth to speak and that's when I saw them. The sharp white fangs protruding out of both corners of his mouth.
"Are you going to let me?" he finished. Even though I didn't hear anything he said, I nod my head, yes. All of a sudden, he's grabbing me and pinning my arms above my head. He brought his lips towards my neck and whispered, "This is going to hurt," and then sunk his teeth deep into the delicate skin.
I screamed into his shoulder as pain soared through my body and my neck ached as he sucked on the area gently. I squirmed beneath him as he slowly released a thick substance into my neck. Eventually, he parted away from my neck, and I passed out under him.

My parents woke up a few days later. Roger and Alan offered us a place in their house. We asked them about our village, and they brought us there to show us what was taking place in that area.
Turns out some rich old prick bought all the land and started building over the houses of our dead town.
Years after years we watched as the town became bigger and bigger, taking over more land, and creating new products. We watched as people died and their grandchildren grew up to have families of their own. We stayed in our little house at the top of a hill while our town was thrown away and forgotten.

Present Day
Maddy's POV
"Maddison, get the fuck out of the bathroom, you've been in there for almost an hour!" Kali yelled from behind the bathroom door. I ignored her and proceeded to brush my teeth for another five minutes until another knock echoed through the room.
"No, no, Maddison this has to stop, open the damn door," my dad said. I open the door and Kali rushes pass me and slams it. School doesn't even start until eight, so I don't know why she was behaving like this.
I made my way downstairs and spotted mom and Alan talking in the kitchen. I gave my momma a big fat kiss on the cheek and stared at Alan for a few seconds before saying a "You're fucking ugly,".
He rolled his eyes at me as I walked over and kissed him on the cheek as well.
"Well, I'm heading out," Daddy long legs said. He walked over and gave Alan a big wet kiss on the lips and made his way out. Cue the exaggeration in the entire paragraph.
Because I'm a big bitch of course, I ate two bowls of cereal as I waited for Kali to get her big built bobble headed ass down the stairs. She came rushing down the stairs and almost fell, serves that bitch right. I walked put the front door, chuckling, and sat in my car as I waited for her.
"Kali, I'm leaving," I said to her as she grabbed an apple and quite literally threw herself in the car. She leaned over and placed her greasy, nasty, black hand on my fucking radio and started messing with the buttons until she found something she liked.
"What did I tell your ass about putting those ugly fingers on my radio?" I asked while staring at the road ahead.
"The fuck you gonna do about it?" she snapped.
"I'll put that black ass out my damn car, Kalianna Amy Ravera," I snapped back.
"What would people at school think if you spoke like this around them?" She asked. I shrugged. I was usually quiet and minded my own business, unless it had something to do with me. It was going to stay that way too.
I parked in an empty parking spot and Kali got out and ran up to a group of girls standing at the entrance. I sat there for a moment and looked out at the school, why did I feel like something was going to happen.
