Unloved

The accident.

"Thinking back to it, my mom had always been so cold towards me. She always favored  my brother Nik and honestly, I was envious. I was so young and I didn't understand what I did wrong, I was just a kid. I tried everything I could to make mom love me and nothing worked. Dad loved me so much he never outcast me or neglected me. He always loved me the same which is why I had hope for mom, until he died and she blamed me. The famous take a twin day."

*Flashback* (12yo)

"Lucy hurry up so we can have more fun" dad yells from downstairs.

I struggle to put my shoes on when I hear footsteps coming up the stairs, mom.

oh no,

I try to rush and tie them but it's no use moms already in the door.

"Lucifer, what is taking so long?" she says, looking down at me.

"I can't tie them because they are knotted. Can you help me?'' I say glancing up.

she doesn't look mad, yet.

She crouches down and  begins to un-knot them.

"Mom," I say , fidgeting with my fingers.

"yes dear"

"are you..going to take nik-"

she abruptly stands and as if something in her switches, she is not  mom anymore.

"Lucifer, don't start. Hurry up" and with that she just walks out. I finish tying my shoes, grab my jacket and run downstairs. When I get there nik is already there standing with mom.

Earlier when I said a parent gets to pick either me or nik i meant mom always picks nik and dad has no choice but to pick me. I don't mind because  me and dad always have fun but I want to go with mom sometimes.

"You ready buddy" dad says to me. I nod but something in me decides to speak up.

"Mom, why do you always choose nik? Do you not like me? Do I bother you? '' I say looking at the floor.

she stops in her tracks, "what ?"

"You always chose to take nik and i.." Dad senses my nervousness and rubs my back, "I really want to spend time with you. if that's alright with you" when i finally glance up she has this weird look on her face as if she's straining herself.

She lets out a deep sigh, "Alright c'mon lucy dear" she smiles but it's not like the smile she gives Nik. That smile is always teeth showing and eye reaching. But right now I don't care. I look back at dad who winks at me. We walk outside and nik and dad head to his car and i head to moms car.

I've always loved dad's baby blue car because of the little heart sticker on the back of it. When we get in the car I glance at mom.

I hope she's not mad.

"Mom, are you upset with me?" I barely whisper.

"no sweetheart. I'm sorry for being..rude earlier, what would you like to do first." she says, smiling at me.

"ice cream...can we get ice cream"

"sure thing sweetie i know the perfect place"

*A few moments later*

After pops gives me the biggest ice cream i have ever seen. Me and mom sit in a booth near the middle. She decided to get a strawberry smoothie with whip cream. It was nice and me and mom were talking and it was normal. I glance behind mom and I see dad and nik across the street at the game store.

"mom nik and dad are a cross the street"

"wanna go see them?" she says leaning on her arm.

"yea sure"
