When James was eleven years old he met the most beautiful woman on earth, a woman who would reject him more times than he cared to remember, and the same woman who now carried his last name, Lily Evans– or rather, Potter.

To anyone who didn't know their story, the marriage of Lily and James was everything but expected. They were like cats and dogs or fire and water; they weren't meant to be together.

From the outside their relationship, whether a strictly professional one, a friendship or a romantic one, seemed to be destines to end in heartbreak– mind you, it did end in broken hearts and grieving memories– yet, while it had hit its rough roads, their relationship was more that what met the eye.

...

Lily Evans thought she had James all figured out. He was a privileged mama's boy who had everything handed to him and had no real problems. He was a boy who couldn't take anything seriously and believed he was better everyone else around him.

James Potter was the exact kind of person she hated. And it didn't help that he was a pure blood; ever since she learnt about the magical world Lily came to realized that she wouldn't be respected among wizard born's. They taunted her, made her feel inferior from everyone else and laughed at her expense, so when James Potter began to ask her out, Lily only figured she was one more of his pranks.
And with it, Lily proved James cared only about himself.

The read head didn't like to admit when she was wrong, on that she was rather stubborn, yet, when she found a sobbing James Potter near one of the corners of the library, all she could do was eat her words up.
"Potter?"
At her sight the prince of Gryffindor sat upright, in a a blur cleaning his face from the stains of agonizing tears, James painted his face with a bright smile, "Evans" he greeted, "What a pleasure to see you"
"I- Are you okay?"
"Oh totally. You know, had to pick up a book and it was too overwhelming for this lazy boy".
For months after Lily would wonder why she stayed, why she cared. She would wonder why she didn't take the bittersweet answer and left.
Carefully, as if scared to scare him away, Lily made her way to James, sitting by his side, against the frozen stone wall. Her gaze travelled to the book he held in his hands only being able to take in the word "Animagus" before James snatched the book from her sight and dropped it closed.
"Animagus, huh? Why are you investigating them?"
"Uhh School"
"We are not seeing Animagus, I don't think we will until seventh year, that is some advance piece of magic"
"I fucking know it is advance magic. Leave it alone, Evans"
Lily placed her hand on Jame's resting hand and shifted to see him, "Do you want to talk about it?"
James' fingers slowly curled into a fist, Lily's hand still on-top oh his, "I can't. It is not my secretary to tell". As he said that, his free hand travelled to his right cheek, where a nasty scar lived.
"What happened to you?!" Lily asked, startled.
As if noticing his mistake, he covered the scar with his hand, "Nothing, nothing, don't worry"
"Did Remus do that to you?"
"What? No, how could he even? This is clearly an animal made scratch"
"Well, he is a werewolf. It is quite obvious"
James looked down, defeated. "Don't tell anyone, please"
"I haven't and I won't". And suddenly it downed to Lily, "You are trying to become an Animagus for Remus, aren't you?"
The process to win the ability to transform into an animal was extremely complicated, not to mention, dangerous. And it was a piece of magic illegal for underage wizards, such as the ability to apperrate. If he actually planned to go trough with it they could in serious troubles with the minister.
James kept quiet, which quite frankly was answer enough.
"Be safe Potter, don't do anything stupid, this is dangerous magic you are altering with"
"We are taking al precautions, don't worry"
"We? Oh Merlin"
"I should probably go, nice chat Evans". James stood up, Lily's hand falling to the floor.
"James?" She called just when he was about to take the turn to leave. James turned around, "The offer to talk about it still stands. Anytime, I promise I won't bite"
"Thanks Lily"
