Billy Hargrove awoke there on the hospital bed. Monitors beeping obnoxiously as the smell of bleach assaulted his nostrils. Hospitals. Oh how he hated them.
His body ached all over. His torso completely wrapped in white, and his arm in a sling. He was pretty banged up. His thoughts drifted to Neil, but then he remembered what really happened.
The monster, Maxine, her friends, Harrington, and his friends. The pain. He remembered all of the pain he'd felt up until he faded to black. He could've sworn he'd died. He honestly would've preferred it that way.
It would've been a nice, easy escape from everything. His home life, his anger at the world, and nobody would've batted an eye. He would've been better off, and so would everyone else.
A hot tear rolled down his face, and he didn't move to wipe it away. Things could never be so easy for him. He didn't want to know what would happen now. How pissed was Neil going to be? Probably pissed enough for another night in this place. He grimaced at the thought.
Neil would wait for him to heal though, just so he had the opportunity to batter him worse than he already was. His tears rolled more, glad that nobody was here to see it. Why would they be? Billy wasn't worth the time or the effort, he knew that.
He wasn't sure how long he'd laid there, before he heard the door open. He looked up at the ceiling, not really caring about who it was. He assumed a doctor or a nurse.
He assumed wrong when red hair and green eyes came into his view. The small feminine hand of his sister grasping onto his good hand and squeezed with all her might. Not in attempt to harm him, (she wasn't nearly strong enough) but just assurance enough to know that it was true. Billy was alive and awake.
"Billy!" Maxine almost choked on a sob. Billy looked over to his red faced little sister, the corners of his lips turning upward slightly.
"Hey pest." His voice was rough and scratchy, he wondered how long he was out.
"Billy I thought you were gone." Max cried. Sobs raked her small frame as Billy squeezed her hand back, attempting to hush her crying. He wasn't worth crying about, she should know that.
"You would've made it without me kiddo. Would it have been so bad?" He asked, shock and hurt took over her face.
"Yes Billy. I need you. We all need you. You're a damn hero Billy. Do you not remember?" Max looked at him in total devistation. It pulled his heartstrings in a way he didn't like. He cares for the brat, and she knows it. She is the little sister he never wanted after all.
Memories of that night flooded his brain. Pushing Max back. The creature looking him in the eyes as it impaled him. His eyebrows shot up. How was he not dead? There wasn't any hole in his chest. Where had it gone? How?
He touched the place he was sure to have been a big hole, but it was gone. There wasn't anything there. Only the bandages on his abdomen and the banged up arm. How could this be?
"Eleven. She saved you." Max told him. "As much as she could anyway. It took a lot out of her." Max sniffed and wiped at her eyes.
"Why?" Billy didn't understand. After all he'd done and said under that things control. How could anyone forgive him.
"Because you sacrificed yourself to try and save us, and it fucking worked Billy. You are a hero." She repeated. Billy fought the urge to roll his eyes.
"If something would've happened to you I would've been dead anyway. Stop calling he a hero." Billy stated flatly. "I was saving my own ass too." He added and Max scoffed, there was no reasoning with her brother. She knew that all too well.
